HomeMy WebLinkAbout00518f a y i i I 1 410 Minutes of January 7, 1930, continued An Ordinance of the City of Port Townsend, amending Section One (1) of Ordinance No. 218, entitled "An Ordinance to license, tax and regulate theatres, shows, exhibitions and public amusement in Port Townsend," as amended by Ordinance No. 894, passed by the City Council April 15; 1919, and approved by the Mayor April 17, 1919, and repealing all ordinances in conflict herewith. The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, do ordain as follows: Gootion li That Section One (1) of Ordinance No. 218, entitled "An Ordinance to license tax and regulate theatres, shays, exhibitions and public amusements in Port Townsend," as amended by said Ordinance No. 894, be and the same is hereby amended to read as fellows; Section 1. All theatres, shows, operas, concerts, dances or balls, exhibitions and othe public amusements hereafter given or conducted in the City of Port Townsend, Washington, shall be licensed and taxed at the following rates to be paid in advance, to -wit; Every circus, exclusive of side shows, •50.00 per day; every side show con- ducted in connection with any circus, $7.50 per day: Every carnival, exclusive of side shows or attractions, $25.00 per day; every side show or attraction conducted in connection with any carnival, 43.50 per day. Every dog, pony, horse show or similar amusement, 410.00 per day. Every dance or bell given or conducted as such entertainment, at any place in the city of Port Tovmsend, and charging an admission foe or thing of value, 45.00 per day; pro- vided, however, that no tax or license fee shall be required for such dance or ball whenever Blame is given or conducted by any bona fide beneficial society, lodge or fraternity, church, school, "ad cross, scientific, charitable, educational, civic league, or social club composed of residents of sai city, when no part of the proceeds thereof inures the benefit of any member thereof, or any indivi- dual having a beneficial interest in the proceeds thereof. Every theatre, opera, concert, show, exhibition or entertainment and every other public amusement other than specified herein, $5.00 per day, 418.00 per weak, 430.00 per month or $100.00 per year; provided, however, that no tax or license foe shall be required for any enter- tainment when same is given or conducted b any bona fide, scientific, agricultural, religious or educational association, including Chataugua. Lvery show, exhibition, entertainment or public amusement, when given or conducted in connection with the sale of any real or personal property, 410.00 per day. Section 2. That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict herewith, be and the same ar hereby repealed. Section 3. That this Ordinance be published once in the Port Townsend Leader, and to tab effect and be in force five days from and after such publication. Passed by the City Council January 7th, 1930. Y , 411 Compliments City Engineer: Councilman Robbins at this time stated that he w:1shod to publicly compliment the city• engineer for the excellent report and maps submitted for the now water distribution system. Instructions to city attorney: It was moved by councilman Robbins and seconded by Councilmen Lammers that the legal department be set in motion to'find out haw to finance the proposed rebuilding of the water distri- bution system. Upon roll call, Councilmen bmith, Lammers, Miller and Robbins voted in the affirma- tive, Councilman Aldrich refusing to vote.Motion declared carried. Posts for reservoir fence; Councilman Lammers brought up the matter of the posts for the reservoir fence, stating that they had found it necessary to use cedar posts instead of concrete, as agreed upon at a previous session of the council. It was then moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Councilman Smith that the council approve the change from concrete to cedar posts for the reservoir fence. Upon roll call, all five councilmen present voted in favor thereof and motion was declared carried. Regular Session January 14th: Mayor Bangerter announced that there would be a regular meeting of the council on Tuesday evening, January 14th, that it was the intention to invite a number of the influential citizens of the city to be present so that they could be advised as to the problems confronting the couhoil for the coning year. Green wants investigation: Water Superintendent Green; addressing the council, stated that he felt that he had been unjustly blamed for the purported condition of several fire hydrants at a recent fire, and requested that a committee be appointed to investigate the condition of the hydrants. The Mayor appointed as such committee, Councilmen Hammers, Smith and Miller. To draw Emergency Ordinance: The Mayor directed the city attorney to draw up an emergency ordinance to cover the increased insurance necessary on the new fire truck.
