City Engineer's Reports: Meter Readings: Main line meter readings for the period from December 15, 1929 to January 6th, 1930, as reported by the city engineer, were read and ordered filed. 'Report on Distribution System: 'The city engineer's report on the proposed Distribution System of the water works, together with estimate of the repairs for reservoir No. 1 on Morgan's Hill, was presented and read, ad follows: December 24, 1929 To the Mayor and City Council Gentlemen: I herewith submit estimates on proposed distribution system for the city of Port Town- send together with an estimate of the repairs for reservoir $1 6A Morgans Hill. The estimates are made up on the basis off -a floating system also on a single line to Reservoir as at present. The floating system I think is best suited to the needs of a growing city. The ad- vantage in. the floating system is that the water is fed direct to the services from the mains and that all the surplus over and above the actual consumption goes into the Reservoirs. The Reservoirs act as an equalizer to the system and at all times assures ample storage for emergencies. Also while one loop might be shut off the other would be discharging water into the Reservoir and this way could be used to supply water through that portion of the loop not* affected by the shut down. As much as possible to do. so all dead ends would be eliminated and with a suitable number of valves it would mean that the minimum number of patrons would not be inconvenienced by a shut down. In the present system when it is necessary to make repairs, a large portion of the City is deprived of water for several hours owing to the lack of valves and cross connections. I have also made provisions for installing new Fire Hydrants on hater Street, also one in the business section on the hill. The present hydrants that are to be replaced with new ones can be overhauled and placed in the districts that are being built up now in various parts of the City and at the present time are without adequate fire protection. The estimates are as follows: ESTIMATE # 1: To be known as LOOP SYSTEM #1 A 16" C.I. pipe from the City Limits to the intersection of the 'vest Line of the Eisenbeis Addition and 9th Street, East on 9th Street to Sheridan Street, at 9th and Sheridan a 6" connection is made for a 6" line which will run south on Sheridan to 7th Street, East on 7th to Cleveland and South on gleveland to join the present new 4" line that runs South on Cleveland to 3rd and west on 3rd to Hancock Street: One of the Fire Hydrants removed from eater Street could be used here as there are a number of new houses without any fire protection except the house service. Going back again to the intersection of 9th and Sheridan Streets the 17" Cast Iron lines runs North to 19th Street, from 19th Street North on Sheridan, a 12" Ci}i•a Pipe runs to Hastings Avenue and from there liasterly along Hastings Avenue to Discovery Road. From the intersection of Hastings Avenue and Discovery Road it runs Northeasterly along Discovery Road to its intersection with "F" Street and San Juan Avenue. From "F" Street and Discovery Road a 10" C.I. Pipe runs North on ban Juan avenue to "U" Street, then 'last on "U" Street to "alnut Street, Southwesterly on ~'Walnut to Root Street, where it connects with a 16" C. I. Pipe connection to the ii6servoirs. An 8" 600d Pipe line from the intersection of Discovery Road and San Juan Avenue runs Southeasterly along "F" Street to Tyler Street then Southerly on Tyler Street to Lawrence Street. At the intersection of Sheridan and 19th Street a 12" C.I. Pipe Line runs 'asterly on 19th to Blaine and Kearney Streets, South on Kearney to 'later Street, zasterly on "ater Street to Monroe, Northerly on Monroe to Roosevelt Street, 'lasterly on Roosevelt to Jackson, Northerly on Jackson to Rooto Street, and Westerly on hoot to the 16" C.I. Pipe at Madison and Root Streets connecting with the Reservoirs. From the Reservoirs at Root and euincy streets a 10" C.I. Pipe line runs south. on 4.uincy to Cosgrove and 'lest on Cosgrove to Taylor Street, South on Taylor Street to Jefferson, East on Jefferson to Adams Street, South on Adams Street to and connecting with the 12" line on 'later Street. An 8" C.I. Pipe runs from Monroe Street West to Harrison Street on Lawrence Street. . IM
