HomeMy WebLinkAbout00477If� `f 1 a I 1 ,328 s.of,Sept 3 - 29 - Statement of Maintenance Expenses: The City Clerk stated that, as authorized by the council, he had written Mr. Schoenwerk, of the National Paper Products Company, in relation to several items to which he took exception, The following being a copy of said letter: August 21, 1929 Mr. Schoenwerk, National Paper Products Co., Seattle, Wash. Dear Sir: The City Council has requested me to make up and forward a.revised statement of the cost of operation and maintenance of the Big Quilcene river pipe line in accordance with a conference hell between Mr. Rose of the pipe line patrol and Counoilmnn'Quenell and City Engineer Sadler but before doing so I would like to take up the second item of the original statement submitted relative to ser vices of the crew of Baer and Cunningham, Engineerpr to which you have taken exception. On Deo. 11, 1928, the City t'ouncil relieved Contractor Jas. H, Coyne from further res- ponsibility of looking after the new pipe line from Camp Talbot to the Little Quilcene, in effect accepting that part of "Contract No. 2" and it became necesssary for the City to patrol that section of the pipe line. This was done by members of the engineering crew until Dec. 19th when the Coun- cil authorized Mr. Baer to employ a,special crew for the work. Christian City Clerk Reply from Sohoenwerk: The following reply had been received from Mr. Schoenwerk, to -wit: August 31st, 1929 Mr. U. E. Christian, City Clerk Port Townsend, Washington. Lear Sir: Replying to your letter of the 21st, I find that you itemized the account of $641.30, and have it listed as "Extra Expense Incurred in Supervising the Construction." I believe this would answer your own question and I believe it should go in as construction cost. Yours very truly, 0, U. Schoenwerk hh Schoenwerk It was moved by Councilman Quenell and seconded by Councilman Miller that the City Clerk be instructed to render a new statement in accordance with the said exceptions. Upon roll call, all six councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. UNFINISHED AND NEW BUSINESS Bids for Wood: .329 i;ammekl that the request The City Clerk reported that in response to the advertisement for six cords 68 wood for the city hall, three bids had been presented, which the mayor directed to be opened, the proposals being as follows: ' Harry L. Brown - 0 $8.40 per cord A. D. Swanson - 0 8.25 per cord Charles Nelson - 0 8.50 per cord It was moved by Councilman Quenell and seconded by Councilman Lamm6ns that the bid of A. D. Swanson to furnish the said six cords of wood at $8.25 per cord, be accdpted. Upon roll call, all six coundilmen present voted in favor thereof and motion was declared carried. To Move Street Light: Councilman Peach reported in favor of moving a street light from the corner near the Schnath property to a location near the corner of 19th Street and San Juan Avenue, stating that if the electric light company were requested to do so, they would probably make the change without any expense to the city. It was moved by Councilman Peach and seconded by Councilman Miller that the city Clerk be instructed to request the PugetSound' Power and Light Company to move the street light to the suggested new location, if at no expense to the city. Motion carried. RECESS It was moved by councilman Quenell and seconded by councilman Peach that the-counoil recess to September 5th at 7:30 P. M, and that ail councilmen be notified of the recess:,heseion, 51111 with a request to be present. Motion carried and recess declared. COUNCIL RECONVENED In accordance with the foregoing motion, the city council reconvened at 7:30 P. M. Thursday, ,eptember, 5, 1929, in the Uouncil hambers of the city hall, Councilmen Quenell, Mayor pr tam, presiding. ROLL CALL Upon roll call, there were present City Clerk C. F. Christian, Acting City Attorney We J Daly, Jr., and all seven councilmen, to -wit: Jacob Miller, Harry W. Robbins, Clark:Aldrich, S. �. Peach, W. H. Smith, Edward Quenell and Wm. Lammers. ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS A resolution to 'fix the levy and corrent expense for the year 1930-was'-presented and rag as follows: R E S O L U T I O N Resolved by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, iashington, that a levy of eighteen.(18) mills be made and levied upon and collected from all tax- able property within the said City, on the assessed valuation for the year 1929, for the Current Expense of said City for the year 1930. Dated Sept, 5, 1929. It was moved by Councilman Robbins and seconded by Councilman Peach that the said reso- lution be adopted. Upon roll call, all seven councilmen present, to -wit: Jacob Miller, Harry W. Rot Clark Aldrich, 5. V. Peach, W. H, Smith, Edw. Quenell and Wm. Lammers, voted in favor thereof and motion was.declared carried. REPORTS OF OFFICERS City Engineer - Re: Clearing Yity Lake: The City Engineer presented a written report relative to taking out the floating logs in the city lake, as follows: September 4, 1929 To the Mayor and City Council Gentlemen: I went out to City Lake this morning with Mr. Jas. H. Coyne to look over the work of taking out the logs in the Lake. I think the work can be done with a crew of four men with a team. Mr. Coyne says that he will furnish the crew and team together with what tools and equipment is necessary to do the work for the following prices: 1 foreman $6.00 per day 1 team and driver 10.00 per day 4 m3n 0 44.50 18.00 per day $34.00 per day ------------ ,
