Passed by the City Council August 1929; i' Approved by the Mayor August , 1929. 44+ Mayor ' Attest: � City Clerk Resolution relating to Ordinance: 4 .a A. resolution in relation to the foregoing proposed ordinance was presented and read as follows: RESOLUTION An ordinance entitled (an ordinance providing for the appropriation of n:onoy and estimating the same, itemizing and classifying the expenditures and declaring an emergency" having been pre- ,' sented to the Uity Council and read tweice, it is hereby resolved that a public hearing be had there• on in the coundil chambers of the city council on Tuesday the 20th day of August, 1929, at the hour " of eight o'clock P. IT,., or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, and that the clerk give notice thereof by publishing a copy of said ordinance once in the Fort Townsend Leader. It was,moved by Councilman -uenell and seconded by Councilman Robbins that said resolution be adopted. Upon roll call, all six councilmen present voted in favor thereof, and motion was do- clared carried. RECESS It was moved by Councilman kuenell and seconded by Councilman reach, that the Council recess for a few minutes. i,iotion carried. r 4 I • `I 4 1 4 AFTER RECESS The City Council re -convened at 10:00 P. M., the following officers and members being present: Mayor George Bangerter, City Clark C. F. -hristian, Acting City Attorney, W. J. Daly, Jr., and Councilmen Edward Quenell, William Lammers, Jacob Miller, Harry W. Robbins, S. V. Peach and W. B. Smith. RELATIVE TO WATER:CLERK Vacancy Declared: At this time, mayor Bangerter declared that a vacancy existed in the position o: clerk in the water department. I,e•a Clerk Appointed: The �'ayor then announced the appointment of Olive Pettygrove to the position of Clerk in Water Department. It eras moved by Cound.ilman khenoll and seconded by Councilman Laimaers that the appointment be confirmed. Upon roll call, all six councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. PROPOSED SALE OF TIMBER Councilmen 4uenell stated that he had heard a report or rumor of the proposed sale of government timber on the Quilcene Diver .rater shed, and moved, seconded by Councilman Robbins, that the council go on record as protesting any proposed sale of timber on the said Big Quilcene River water shed. Yotion carried. ^ Clerk to Write Letter: The Clerk was instructed to advise the forestry department of the action of the council and to send a copy of the said letter to 111r. 0. C. Schoonwerk. rii'ias l p'r . ;p 1,11 , r , i>. .n � 5 CAUFMAN-LEONARD SIDEVIALK Councilman Robbins brought up the matter of the condition of the concrete sidewalk dt the corner of Water and Polk Streets, and the street Superintendent was instructed to notify the owner, the Caufman-Leonard (;ompany, to repair the said sidewalk, or it would be repaired by the city and the cost assessed to the property. Washington Street Sidewalk: Councilman Robbins also brought up the condition of the sidewalk on'the Wash+ ington Street Grade, and requested Mr. Pollard to make a statement to the council. Mr. Pollard stated that the bulkhead on the ifashington Street grade was giving away. That part of the sidewalk was in a decayed condition, and that both the bulkhead and sidewalk were in a dangerous condition. The Street Superintendent and City Engineer were instructed to survey the situation and to make recommendations to the council. The condition of the 'Taylor Street Terrace steps was also mentioned but no action was taken. Loge in City Lake: Councilman `tuenell reported that he had recently visited the City Lake and said that there were a number of floating logs in the lake that should be taken out. No action was taken in the matter. Estimato for Hadlock-Irondale Reservoir: Mayor Bangerter requested the City Engineer to prepare an estimate of the cost of n reservoir on the top of the hill for the Hadlock-Irondale line. Councilman Peach Reports: At ehe request of the Mayor, Councilman Peach, chairman of the .fire and light committee, reported briefly in relation to attending the convention of the Pacific Coast Fire Chiefs at Vancouver, B. C., He stated that the convention continued in session for four days) that ma{ty instructive papers on inspection, methods of fire -fighting, and first aid, etc, were read., He also stated thatg'fire fighting apparatus was on display, and that exhibition drills were carried out.
