RECESS It was moved by Councilman Robbins and seconded by Councilman Miller that the Council recess for a few minutes, Upon roll call, all five councilman present voted in favor thereof and recess was declared. In the matter of the final estimate on James H. Coyne's contract, it was moved by Councilman Robbins and seconded by Councilman Smith that the said bill be approved, but that payment on same be deferred to July loth. Upon roll call, all five councilmen present voted in favor thereof, and motion was declared carried. Award of Bid for Truck: In the matter of the bids for a truck for the street department, it was moved by Councilman bobbins and seconded by Councilman Lammers that the city pay the small difference in the price, and buy the chevrolet truck in accordance with the bid of the Buhler Motor Company. Upon roll call, all five councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carrie Bill of Baar and Cunningham: In the matter of the bill of Baar and Cunningham, for third progress payment; it was moved by councilmen Lammers and seconded by councilman Miller that action on the said claim be deferred until the pipe line is fully metered and shown that the specified capacity of 14,000,00 gallons per day is delivered. Upon roll call, all five councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. Remarks by Mr. Baar: Mr. Baar addressed the council relative to problems connected with drawing the water through the city lake. He stated that itcmightebe necessary to heavily chlorinate the water from the lake until the Full volume of water from the Big Quileene River had been flowing through the lake for some time. He stated, however, that if too much chlorination was necessary, that the supply of water would be taken from both the main and through bhe lake until the water in the lake was thoroughly sweetened. He also mentioned the''leaks in the tunnel and that when regular working conditions could be ascertained, the matter would be properly taken care of. To Purchase Meters: In relation to the communication of City Engineer Sadler, quoting prices on meters, it was moved by Councilman Robbins and seconded by ouncilman Lammers that the City Enginee: be directed to purchase and install one 20" Sparling Meter Companyks meter with metrograph recorder for the main line and a new 6 in. meter for the Irondale-Hadlock line, and to build housing for the same. Upon roll call, all five councilmen present voted in favor thereof, and motion was declared carried. Communications between Councilman Quenell and 0. C. Schoenwerk: With reference to the matters taken up in the conference between a committee from the city council and representatives of the National Paper Products Company, Councilman Quenell reported that a reply had been forwarded to Mr. Schoenwerk in relation to the items to be completed by the city before the paper company would take over the line, as follows, to -writ: Item No. 1 - That the matter of right-of-ways, titles, etc, would be attended to at once. Item No. 2 - That the City Lake would be out in as soon as there was sufficient water, and that the screen box was completed. Item No. 3 - It was understood by the city that all back filling was waived when the pipe line was taken over by the City Council and accepted as completed. Item No. 4 - Any additional air valves required would be installed. Item No. 5 - That the City would take care of the frost proofing of the air valves in due time. Also, that a list of the consumers outside of the city limits had been furnished and the location of the taps had been given by reference to station numbers. Reply from Schoenwerk: Councilman Quenell then presented the reply that had been received from Mr. Schoenwerk, which was read as follows, to -wit: June 27th, 1929 Mr. Edward Quenell, Chairman Pater Committee, City of Port lownsend, Washington My dear Mr. Quenell: I have your letter of the 20th giving me information relative to the water line This bears out the assumption that I have always had that there were a number of tap -offs from these various main tap -offs.
