From Federal Pipe and Tank Company
The communication from the Federal. Pipe and Tank Company was presented and read as follows:
"April 2, 1929
The onorable'Mayor and City Council
Port Townsend, Rashington
Gentlemen:
The writer of this letter, present at the council meeting last Friday the 29th, was mul
interested in a letter from the Port Townsend Park Board requesting a donation of old wood pipe fro]
Water Department to be used as a drain.
The old pipe, which already has been in service for more than twenty years could not
be expected to long survive additional service as a drain, under the most adverse conditions -
alternately wet and dry - most conductive to rapid decay.
The proper pipe for such a purpose would be a creosoted wood pipe,. The wood, being
treated under pressure with hot creosote, could not rot and the wire, being heavily galvanized, wou
last for many years.
'No are taking the liberty of shipping to you a sample of such a pipe. This will con-
sist of several pieces totaling a length of 35 feet, The pipe will be 10" inside diameter and band
a head not in excess of 50 feet.
Please accept this with our compliments and as a slight expression of our gratitude fo
the many courtesies that we have so frequently been extended to this company and its representative
Yours very truly,
FEDERAL PIPE k TANK COMPANY
HDCoale:IW Chief Engineer "
