Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, I+eshington. Gentlemen: In line with the discussion had at the council meeting of the 29th untimo, your water superintendent has installed the 14" gate valve in the main supply line within the City Limits and w, have'oonoluded a test, bringing the water to the desired working pressure. From these tests we have determined the elevation of the proposed .screen bos and have selected the most suitable location for it near the west portal of the tunnel. To connect the screen box to the supply and waste lines at the new location will re- quire 400 feet more of 24" pipe and involves some 400 cgbic yards more of excavation. nine it is. necessary to order material at once I am instructing the contractor to proceed -so that the work will be expedited with a minimum delay. Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Washington., Gentlemen: I am enclosing herewith copy;of letter received from the Central Inspection Bureau, who agree to inspect the fabrication of steel pipe and specialties as before for 325.00. This was based on the assumption that only 500 feet of steel pipe would be needed, but since that this quan- tity has been changed to 920 foot so we presume the cost will be proportionately higher, or perhaps in the vicinity of $40.00. Sinoe some of this work is under progreas and was undertaken between Council meet- ings, we have instructed the Central Inspection Bureau to proceed with this work.
