The minutes of the special called meeting of Feby 24th, 1927, were read and approved as read. There were present Mayor ueorge Bangerter, City Attorney Jae. W. Lammers e, Harry Mayor Bangerter then submitted the following appointment in writing, to -wit: Port Townsend, Wash., March let, 1927 To the Honorable Members of the City Council: Gentlemen: of A. J- Sadler, herewith submit for your consideration, the appointment Sadler, to the office of City Engineer, and the the office of Water Super- intendent confirmand thedappoin ment ofitor, and dW- J. Sadler yttoesaidtwo aoffi t Your esgonorable Respectfully submiDr. George Bangerter, Mayor. It was moved by Councilman Quenell and seconded by Councilman Manson that the appointment of W. J. Sadler be confirmed. Motion carried, all Councilman voting in favor thereof. The following resolution was then presented and read, to -wit: Resolved by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, that W. J. Sadler, shall receive and be paid the sum of $225.00 per month, in full for all services that may be required of, and performed by him, as City Engineer, and later Superintendent and Auditor, during ndthe tterm aid monthly two officesyments be ending on the first day of January, 1929: a made from the funds of the Water Department. It was moved by Councilman Coyne and seconded by Councilman Manson that the resolution be adopted and upon a roll call vote, the motion car- ritd, all the Councilman voting affirmatively. Councilman Gerson moved to refer the al bill to the Water-and"Drainage committee as an amendment to the origin motion but the motion to amend receiving no second, a roll call vote was taken on the original motion and was declared oarried, Cotneilmen Miller, Coyne, Chapelle, Manson, Quenell and Lammers voting in favor thereof and Councilman Gerson voting in the negative. The report of the Chief of Police for the month ending Feby 28, 1927, was presented, read and ordered filed. The Water Superintendent0s report for the month of February, n 1927, was presemted, read, and referred to the committee on g8 The report of the Street Superintendent of work done during the month of February, 1927, was presented, read and ordered filed. Reports of Standing Committees. No action having been taken on the report of the Finance Committee, read at the session of the Council held Feby 15, 1927, relative to the proposed contract with the Standard Oil Co., for Lubricating Oils, said report was again read as follows: Port Townsend, Wash., Feby 15th, 1927 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the City of Port Townsend. Gentlemen: Your Committee on Finance and Claims to whom was referred the matter of contract with Standard Oil Company for Lubricating 011 would respectfully report as follows: The contract as submitted should be accepted and the Mayor and City Clerk authorized to sign same. • Max Gerson Edw. Quenell It was moved by Councilman Gerson and seconded by Councilman Lam - mere that the report be adopted and that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and instructed to sign said contract. Motion carried, all councilmen voting in the affirmative. - Communications. Communications from Mark A. Shields, Secretary to Governor Hartly, - and a copy of the letter from Hanford MacNider, Asst. Secretary of War, to Governor Hartley, relative to the disposal of the Old Fort Townsend Military Reservation, were presented and read. The substance of the _ communications was that Congress had authorized the disposal of said reservation and the City was advised that it had a preferential right to purchase the same and the Mayor was requested to advise the Secretary to the Governor whether the City desired to purchase said land. Said communications were referred to committee on Finance and Claims. r t, I
