AN ORDINAL+CE of the City of Port Townsend providing for end fixing
the date of a special election for the qualified voters
of the city to ratify or reject propositions granting
to the City Council authority to levy taxes on the
taxable property of said city in excess of the rate of
fifteen mills now provided by lnr..
WHEREAS, it appears Lo the City Council of Ube City of Port
Townsend from an examination of the preliu.inary budget now on file
with said council that there will be inaufficient money returned to
the City Treasury of the City of Port Townsend during the year 1934,
through taxation and otherwise, to provide for and carry out the
functions of city government for that year; and
BERLAS, under the provisions of Initiative No. 64 (Chapter 4,
Laws.of Washington, 1933), cities and towns are granted power to levy
taxes in excess of fifteen mills, when authorized so to do by the e-
lectors of such city or town; and
WHEREAS, it appears to the City Council that an election for
that purpose is necessary, and that the following propositions should
be submitted to the qualified electors of the city for ratification
or rejection,
THE CITY COMIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOMSEND, "iASHIOGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That v special election be held in the City of Port
Townsend and the various voting wards thereof on Tuesday, the 26th
day of September, 1933, which day and date be, and hereby is, fixed
as the date upon which said election shall be held and shall be voted
upon by the qualified electors of said city the following propositions
and questions, in the manner following:
Proposition I. Shall the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend be authorized to levy and collect during the year 1934
the sum of J2,060.80, for the purpose of meeting a yearly in-
stallment upon the city fire engine, by a special and additional
levy on all taxable property of said city over and above the
15-mill levy now authorized by law?

Proposition II. .-hall the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend be authorized to levy and collect during the year
1934 the sum of q ,750.00, for the purpose of operating and
maintaining the free public library of said city, by a special
and additional levy on all taxable property of said city over
and above the 15-mill levy now authorized by law?
