HomeMy WebLinkAbout01178ORDINANCE NO. 987 All ORDINANCE of the City of Port 'Townsend regulating the keeping of dogs within said city, imposing liconre fees and providing ponalties for violations thereof and repealing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict therewith. The City Council of the City of Port Townsend do ordain as follows: Section 1 - After January let, 1930, it shall be unlawful to own or keep a dog in the city of Port Townsend unless the owner or keeper thereof shall have a valid and subsisting license for each such dog. Section 2 - The annual license fees for dogs shall be as follows: Each male dog, One Dollar, ($1.00). Each Female dog, Two Dollars, ($2.00). Each Spayed femalu dog, "ne Dollar, (41.00). Section 3 - On payment to the '-ity Treasurer of the amount of said license tax and the production of the City 'Treasurer's receipt therefor, it shall be the duty of the City Clerk to issue a license to the person applying for the same, which shall expire on December 31 of the year of issue. The City Clerk shall furnish with each license a metal tag of appropriate design which shall be changed annually and upon each tag shall be the inscription "Port Townsend", together with the year in which the li- cense is issued and a number corresponding to the number of the license, and such tag shall be appended to a strap or band which the owner or keeper shall provide and place upon the dog so licensed. Section 4 - It shall be the duty of the City Clerk to keep a list of the names and addresses of all persons to whom such licenses are issued, with the number and oharacter of the license issued to each person. Section 5 - After the 15th day of April of each succeeding year, all dogs found running at large without having a license tag are hereby declared to be a public nuisance, and it shall be the duty of the Chief of Police, or some other person by him appointed, to distrain and impound all such doge, and when impounded they shall be kept for forty-eight hours, at the end of which time it shall be discretionary with him as to whether such animal shall be sold to defray the expense of keeping it, or whether it shall be killed. Section 6 - All money received from the sale of dogs shall be paid by the Chief of Police into the City Treasury immediately upon such sale being made, and it shall also be his duty to cause all such animals, while impounded, to be fed and treated in a hu- mane manner.
