Approval of Minutes: November 28, 2017 Unanimously approved.
Reconsideration of 2018 Lodging Tax Budget recommendation. The Committee unanimously approved
the postponed motion moved to reconsider the 2018 budget recommendation.
The Committee discussed the 2018 budget recommendation of the October 30th meeting, including the need to balance marketing, services and infrastructure.
David Timmons gave an outline of a transition plan to move oversight of the marketing budget from the City Manager and Marketing Consultant to the Chamber of Commerce and the Port Townsend Visitor Information Center in 2018. A marketing sub-committee could be formed to work with the Visitor Information Center.
The Committee recommended the implementation of a succession plan to
transfer marketing services to the Chamber of Commerce and the Port Townsend Visitor Information Center for an amount not to exceed $178,500 by a vote of 8-0 (Sherri Hanke abstained). City staff will bring a proposed work plan to the January 9th meeting.
The Committee discussed the October 30th recommendation to commit $25,000 annually
over the next 20 years to support the Fort Worden PDA. David Timmons noted that this support would assist the PDA with obtaining other funding for their need energy upgrades. Diane Moody noted that the PDA’s marketing emphasis will be on attracting groups rather than leisure travelers.
No action was taken to reconsider the
recommendation of October 30th.
