MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL BUSINESS MEETING OF JANUARY
28, 2019
CALL TO ORDER/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Port Townsend City Council met in special session on the 28th day of January
2019 in Council Chambers at 540 Water Street. Mayor Deborah Stinson called the
meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Councilmembers present at roll call were Pamela Adams, David Faber, Robert Gray,
Amy Howard, Michelle Sandoval, Ariel Speser, and Deborah Stinson.
Staff members present were Finance and Administrative Services Director Nora
Mitchell, and City Clerk Joanna Sanders.
NEW BUSINESS
Community Task Force Recommendation on City Manager Recruitment
Finance and Administrative Services Director Nora Mitchell briefed Council on
the packet materials. She distributed a copy of the City's recently-adopted strategic
plan.
Community Task Force Chair Catharine Robinson reviewed the City's process from
public meetings and open house to compilation of the survey results. She noted the
profile created by the task force mirrors the work of the Council in its strategic plan.
She and Ms. Mitchell addressed Council questions about the committees
recommendations. Ms. Mitchell reviewed the recruitment process and hiring
timeline.
Public Comment:
Catharine Robinson recommended using a head hunter for the remaining phases of
the hiring process.
Following a brief discussion, there was general consensus to bring forward
the recommendations for Council action. Staff agreed to incorporate the
recommendations into the other documents to be brought forward next week.
Mayor Stinson and Councilmembers expressed their gratitude for Catharine
Robinson's leadership as well as the efforts and contributions of the task force.
