Description
A thrilling new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa See
explores the lives of a Chinese mother and her daughter who has been
adopted by an American couple.
Li-yan and her family align their lives around the seasons and the farming of
tea. There is ritual and routine, and it has been ever thus for generations. Then
one day a jeep appears at the village gate—the first automobile any of them
have seen—and a stranger arrives.
After mother and daughter have gone their separate ways, Li-yan slowly
emerges from the security and insularity of her village to encounter modern life
while Haley grows up a privileged and well-loved California girl. Despite
Haley’s happy home life, she wonders about her origins; and Li-yan longs for
her lost daughter. They both search for and find answers in the tea that has
shaped their family’s destiny for generations.
A powerful story about a family, separated by circumstances, culture, and
distance, Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane paints an unforgettable portrait of a

Summer Reading 2018- Final Numbers
Hilary Verheggen and Jeanne Simmons planned a wonderful
summer reading program for all ages with the theme of “Libraries
Rock!” and had great support from the library staff and
community. This year we continued the partnership that was
created in 2017 between the City and County libraries to keep the
program as seamless as possible for patrons and encourage
patrons to use both libraries. The libraries shared in the cost for a
prize t-shirt design by returning local artist Annalisa Barreli. Kids and
teens earned a book to keep as soon as they signed up and again
when they read for 10 hours. They got a beautiful shirt designed
when they read 50 hours. Adults earned a shirt for reading 100
hours. This summer the library offered several children’s and teen
programs, as well as all ages programs for the whole family.
Summer Reading 2018 was a huge success, that the whole staff
and community helped to support. We could not have done it
without the generous support and work of the Friends of the Library!
THANK YOU!

Liam Ross was an avid reader this Summer, he won one of the raffle prizes, a $25 gift card to Whistle
Stop Toys. He demanded to his mother that they go to the library right away!
