HomeMy WebLinkAbout041117 FINAL MinutesLODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES DATE: April 11, 2017 START TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Michelle Sandoval (Chair), Cindy Finnie (via teleconference), Denise Winter, Barb Trailer, Dave Robison, Robert Birman, Sherri Hanke, Amanda Milholland, Janette Force NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Mari Mullen, William Roney, Teresa Verraes MEMBERS EXCUSED: Todd Gubler, Nathan Barnett CITY STAFF PRESENT: Marketing Director Christina Pivarnik, Finance & Administrative Services Director Nora Mitchell, Deputy City Clerk Joshua Stecker Topic Action Chair Michelle Sandoval called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Approval of Minutes: November 10, 2016 & January 10, 2017 Unanimously approved. Roundtable Reports: • Dave Robison reported 9% increase in reservation at Fort Worden, decrease at Suite at the Fountain • Bill Roney reported on shoulder season radio/Instagram campaign and a 15% County lodging tax revenue increase. • Janette Force reported on a successful Women in Film event. • Amanda Milholland reported 3,000 attendees to the Farmers’ Market Opening Day. • Mari Mullen noted the upcoming May 10 Merchant Breakfast would include an overview of the Water Street Paving Project • Denise Winter reported on recognition in the Kitsap Sun and upcoming youth initiative. • Sherri Hanke reported 10% increase in revenue and Orca Month promotions. • Teresa Verraes reported visitation slightly down and the return of the 4th of July event. • Barb Trailer reported on potential self-guided tour, boat rentals for summer and upcoming Race to Alaska event. • Cindy Finnie reported a challenging first quarter in reservations. • Rob Birman presented the Centrum Brochure for the upcoming season. Nora Mitchell reported that the City is 5% ahead of budget in lodging tax revenue but slightly behind in retail sales tax revenue. She also gave an update on the Howard Street and Water Street projects and the City’s upcoming communications strategy development. Christina Pivarnik reported on winter campaign advertisements and press recognition. Topic Action The Committee discussed the need for a new Performing Arts Venue, including potential partners, the possibility of renovating the Community Center for $1.5 - $2 million and using LTAC surplus to pay for a consultant.
