HomeMy WebLinkAbout071117 FINAL MinutesLODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES DATE: July 11, 2017 START TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Dave Robison, Sherri Hanke, Nathan Barnett, Amanda Milholland, Denise Winter, Barb Trailer, Michelle Sandoval (Chair), Cindy Finnie (via teleconference) NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Mari Mullen, William Roney MEMBERS EXCUSED: Teresa Verraes, Robert Birman, Janette Force CITY STAFF PRESENT: Marketing Director Christina Pivarnik, City Manager David Timmons, Deputy City Clerk Joshua Stecker Topic Action Chair Michelle Sandoval called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Approval of Minutes: April 11, 2017 Unanimously approved. Roundtable Reports: • William Roney reported a slight drop in Visitor Information Center activity. • Amanda Millholland reported on a successful Artisan Food Festival. • Nathan Barnett reported slow first half lodging numbers and a 30-50% increase in Steampunk attendance. • Mari Mullen reported on Taste of Port Townsend, Concerts on the Dock and marketing efforts for the Water Street paving project. • Denise Winter reported on Shakespeare in the Park and teen initiative project. • Barb Trailer reported on Race to Alaska and Wooden Boat Festival organization. • Dave Robison reported on the Fort Worden budget and marketing activity. • Cindy Finnie reported increased reservations in June and July. David Timmons reported on activities around town including the Clapp Building remodel, Business Park brewery opening, Howard Street project progress, Hastings Building decking, Point Hudson plans, City communications study, short term rental code implementation, Visitor Center park design, Water Street paving project, parking enforcement issues and the City budget process. Christina Pivarnik reported on the rebranding efforts for OPTC and Fort Worden, plus a review of the upcoming winter marketing campaign. The Committee discussed the potential for starting winter marketing earlier in the year. Michelle Sandoval encouraged the Committee to begin thinking of budget discussion items for the next meeting and brought up the potential for a performing arts venue feasibility study.
