AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING A CHARGE FOR
CHECKS RETURNED TO THE CLERK-TREASURER
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION
ASSEMBLED, DOORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Purpose.. It is a convenience to the public to be allowed
to make payments to the city in the form of a check. When the city
Clerk-Treasurer receives a non-negotiable check, it is necessary for
city staff to expend time and effort correcting records, contacting
the maker 6f such checks, and reprocessing the collection. The costs
should not be born by the taxpayers of Port Townsend, but rather should
be born by the maker of such non-negotiable check.
SeCtion 2. Authorization. The city Clerk-Treasurer is hereby authorized
and directed to charge Ten Dollars ($10.00) whenever it is necessary to
reprocess a non-negotiable check.
Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
passage, approval, and publication in the form and manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second, and third times, passed by the Council
and approved by the Mayor on this 5th day of June, 1984.
