AN ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO PARKING REGULATIONS IN
THE CITY, BY ~4ENDING SECTIONS AND ADDING NEW SEC-
TIONS TO ORDINANCE NUMBERS 1753 AND 1024 and 1490,
AS AMENDED
~E CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN
REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Ordinance Number 1753, Section 1, and Section
10.04.142 of the City Code, are here and hereby amended to
read as follow~:'
ImPoundment--When--Authority. (~-~~e~-~e?a~-~e~-~
chief of police and his designated agents are empowered to
' impound motor vehicles for violation of parking ordinances
other then meter violations and further to impound vehicles,
unlicensed vehicles, vehicles obstructing traffic of any kind,
vehicles parked on parade routes after posted notice of no parking
is given on said route for two hours or more ~ p~!i~hed notice is
given in a weekly newspaper of general circUlation once at least five days prior to such parad
vehicles left unattended by reason of the arrest of the operator or owner,
and vehicles parked in a signed "no parkinq, tow-away zone"
sp.ace~or in a designated handigapped pa~king zone under state law.
Section 2. Ordinance 1490, Section 1, as amended by
Ordinance Number 1531, Ordinance Number 1639 and Ordinance
Number 1777, and Section 10.04.150 of the City Code, are
each here and hereby amended to read as follows:
Method of Pa..r.k~.~.g. on all streets of the City no motor
vehicle will be permitted to stand or park unless the same has
been placed with the right-hand wheels parallel with the curb and
within twelve inches thereof, excepting that on that portion of

tween Lawrence Street and Clay Street on the west side arid Harri-
son Street between Washington Street and Jefferson Street on the
west side, no vehicle will be permitted to stand or park
unless the same has been placed with the lonqitudinal line of
its chassis at an angle of 45 degrees to the curb and with its
right front Wheel within six inches of the curb; and excepting that
on that portion of Tyler Street between Water Street and Front
Street, Polk Street between Water Street and Washington Street~
Tyler Street between Water Street and Washington Street on the north
end, Tyler Street intersecting with Washington Street that abuts the
~1~, no vehicle will be permitted to stand or park unless the
same has been placed with the longitudinal line of its chassis at
an angle of 90 degrees, to the curb and with its front wheels within
six inches of the curb; provided, however, that no standing or
parking whatsoever of motor vehicles will be permitted upon the
streets of the city within those certain zones which the chief
of police or city council have caused to be (ma~e~) painted
yellow or red, or With the words "No Parking", whether
by lettering upon the curb or on signs erected for the purpose;
and further provided, that parking only for special purposes
will be permi~tted upon streets or portions of streets where the
chief of police or city council have caused to be placed signs
reading "No Parking" except for purposes designated on the signs,
as, for example and not in limitation, "No Parking--Ferry Traffic."
Section 3. Ordinance Number 1024, Section 2 and Section
10.04.170 of the City Code are here and hereby amended to read
as follows:
Taxicabs and bus zones. With the consent of the owners
of property abutting on any parts of streets mentioned in
Section (10.04.160) 10.04.150, the mayor, chief of police and
chairman of the street committee, acting together, are hereby
granted the power and authority to designate zones for taxicabs
and auto buses to stand or park, on any of the parts of streets
mentioned in Section (10.04.160) 10.04.~50, such designation to
be in writing and filed with the city clerk; provided, however,
that such taxicabs and autobuses shall not be subject to the
hours of standing or parking, as provided for in Sections (10.04.160)
10.04.190, !0.04.194 and 10.04 200L and provided ~urtber, th&t
physicians be allowed to park their autos at all hours without

~taxicabs or auto buses from said zones.
Section 4. There is added to Ordinance Number 102~ as
amended a new section to be codified as Section 10.04.194 of the
City Code as follows:
Fifteen-~inute Parkinc. it shall be unlawful for an~ Derson
to stand or Dark any motor vehicle continuously at the same place
for more than fifteen minutes between the hours of nine a.m. and
five p.m. on any day except Sundays and holidays, on the followino
streets of the City:
(1) Water Street between ~adison Street and the alley bor-
derin~ the east .side of City Hall(directly in front of City Hail.)
(2) Harrison Street between Washington Street and Jefferson
Street~on the west side.
(3) Van Buren Street between Washington Street and the alley,
on the east side.
Section 5. If any provisions of this ordinance or its appli-
cation to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder
of the ordinance or the application of the provision to other perso~
or circumstances is not affected.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage,
approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second and third times, passed by the
Council and approved by the Mayor on this ?--~-day of August, 1984.
