HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026 Sewage Service RatesORDINANCE NO. ~~ AN ORDINANCE INCREASING SEWER RATES AND AMENDING SECTIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 1873; AND ORDINANCE NO. 1508 AS AMENDED PREVIOUSLY BY ORDINANCES NO. 1657, 1791, 1872, 1942, AND 1980. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3 of Ordinance No. 1508, as amended by Ordinances Nos. 1'657, 1791, 1872, 1942 and 1980, and Section 13.04.030 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code, are here and hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 31~_ As to all classes of sewage service as defined in SeCtion 13.04.020, the monthly rate of (%we~ve) fifteen dollars shall be paid; provided, that any commercial user using in excess of ten thousand gallons of water per month, the majority .of which is being~introduced into the sanitary sewer system, shall pay an amount equal to (~8) 175 percent of the monthly water bill. In the event any property owner or owners shall require an unusually large use of the sewer system, special rates for such user may be fixed by agreement with the city without the necessity of amending this chapter. The rates provided in this section may be made subject to such discounts, reductions or revisions as may be provided by ordinance and state law for elderly or handicapped citizens." Section 2. Ordinance No. 1873 and Section 13.04.035 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code, are here and hereby amended to read as follows: "13.04.035 Rates--Low income senior ci~~. A. For the purposes of this section, 'low income senior citizen' is d~T~tned as a person 62 years and over of age, whose t~4~A~~e, including that of his or her spouse or cotenant, does not exceed the sum of ten thousand dollars per annum. -1- "B. For the purposes of this section, a 'cotenant' is defined as any person living in or upon the same premises as those occupied by the low income senior citizen. "C. For the purposes of this section, the term 'total income' includes but is not limited to all pensions, whether from private or government sources, any disability payments, interest, dividends, annuity proceeds, and all and every other amount which may be available to the low income senior citizen for purposes of spending the same. "Low income senior citizens, as defined in this section, upon application and proof of their status to the city clerk, shall be subject to a monthly sewage sewer charge pursuant to Section 13.04.030, as amended, of (~e) six dollars." Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect on February 15, 1986, after passage, approval and publication as required by law. Read for the first, second, and third times, passed by the Council and approved by the Mayor on January 21, 1986.
