Agenda items
ITEM Meeting Minutes from October 20th were unanimously approved
ITEM Special Presentation: Library Foundation Introduction by Foundation President Susan Hargleroad
PT Library Foundation is an independent, non-profit Board in existence from the 1990s. Does not subsidize normally funded projects, The Foundation is looking for another project; a larger, brick and mortar project.
Susan asked that a member of the LAB attends 1x month meeting. Sarah McNulty and Sidonie Wilson will share role as Library Foundation meeting liaison.
Friends of the Library also request a liaison from the LAB. Sarah Fairbank will represent the LAB at the Friends of the Library meetings.
Old Business
ITEM Basic Reference Training Recap- presented by Mysti Willmon
Library employees were retrained to ask open ended questions, to keep open body language to inspire approachability. Patrons may not initially ask for assistance.
This training is part of ongoing, comprehensive library service training.
ITEM Harwood Institute Progress- Melody Eisler and Ann Raymond
Melody used the Turning Outward process with her library staff. She reported rich results with staff as they considered how to consider community aspirations and needs.
Ann and Melody will use the Harwood Institute’s process with the Port Townsend School District Leadership team during a December Leadership meeting.
Our LAB is interested in participating. Melody and Ann engage the LAB in the process at the next LAB meeting.
New Business
ITEM Election of LAB Chair- Discussion of Chair duties: to lead meetings, set meeting agenda, a 1 year term.
Ann Raymond is the new Chair by a unanimous vote.
ITEM Museum Passes- Sarah Fairbank and Mysti Willmon
Sarah and Mysti are researching museum passes for local museums. The hope is that passes will be available at the library for patron check out.
Museum passes for patron check out may be mutually beneficial for library and local museums.
Sarah and Mysti will continue work on this initiative with melody Eisler.
ITEM Library Policies- Melody Eisler
The LAB will work on updating Library policies under the leadership of Melody Eisler. Focus of LAB work will be on Collection Development Policy and Patron Code of Conduct- how patrons share the library space. This policy will be aligned with City Code.
The LAB role is to help with research, be a sounding board and provide community input. Policies are approved by City Council
ITEM PLAY Proposal- New LAB member Sidonie Wilson
Sidonie Wilson presented her proposal to create a parent group to give input into library collection and programming. PLAY (Parent Patron Library Association for Youth) could serve as a liaison between library administration and parents wanting to give input, and connect parents with staff.
