I. Opening Business
Chairman Carman called the meeting to order at 7:32 P.M.
Members present were Jeri Taver akis, Ron Kosee, Alan Carman, Bob Grimm,,
and Bon Hoglund. Also present was City Attorney Keith Harper.
The minutes of ILarch 27, 1986 were approved as written. Ron Kosec so
moved and Jim Taverna is seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous)*
II. Application 386-01 T.F. Claudia Belgard

o feet east and ,rest side of Thayer Street Fort Townsend, Wa.
Mr. Bel. ard stated that if the street is vacated it could still be used as
street by the city. They needed to ext and 18 feet for building that is now
feet from the property line. It would add more taxes to city income and
does not harm existence as a street. City ordinance requires both slides
be vacated and part owns the other property opposite there. Ted Strictlin
suggested the vacation request. Port i illing to join vacation but would not
be responsible for the cost.
The committee assigned to study the application n felt there was plus and minuses.
The concern was that the request did not continue on through. The applicant
was not Willing to pay for the port's share. Each property owner has to take
their portion on each side of the street. If adjacent owner refuses to pay
and applicant will not pay for haim then commission cannot go through iiith
recommending a vacation, The commission did not want to rap.;nent the street.
It was suggested to the applicant that they get the property owners to petition
ith` hem for the rest of Thayer Street and amend the application to include It
all..
Bob Gramm roved to continue the application on June 26, 1986. Jixn Taverna is
seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.

Variance Request (for setback) 1709 Oise
Port Townsend., Wa.
They were planning on building an addition and the existing porch would now
need a variance.
The committee felt there ras no problem in allowing a variance since they
met the criteria for a variance. The neighboring houses had si ul.ar porches.
Fon Kosec recommended to the City Council approval of Application No. h86-01
as it meets the criteria in the variance ordinance. Jim Tavernakis seconded
the motion and the vote was unanimous.

Keith Harper stated the principal charge was in the first section and

Wendy Madigen stated the revision was fair, workable and a compromise.
Joy Cox stated that houses were closer than now allowed and trumpet playing
was disturbing. There was a need to deal with noise.
Robert pafford read letter concluding that a decision to encourage the growth
f the local tourist industry, which will grog i th the strength of the art
eommunity,
