Also present were Karen Erickson, Sally McDole, Jim Tavernalas and Jim Roberts. Planners Dave Robison and Rick Sepler were present as well. II. Approval of mutes: none. M. Communications: none. IV, old Business . Arterial Streets Amendment to Comprehensive Plan L Staff Review (Sepler) Mr. Sepler gave a brief description of how the arterial streets amendment came about. The process included taking traffic counts, identifying corridors of potential future development, and - incorporating community feedback. Mr. Sepler then explained that, given this information, the City is noir contemplating an interim control ordinance. Specifically, the ordinance would establish setbacks which preserve options for future road expansion. Discussion followed on whether/how this plan would limit development. A distinction was dawn between keeping options open, and setting strict prohibitions. Mr. Sepler emphasized the perspective of keeping possibilities open. . . Public Testimony Doug Jason stated that he has property between 35th and 39th Streets. Accordi ' a _ 10 typical street development. As examples, he cited ring-roads, bicycle, and pedestrian tmffic plans. . Commission Discussion Mr. Sepler suggested that at next business meeting, he and the Commission schedule a workshop meeting. Ms. McDole moved to follow this suggestion; Ms. Erickson seconded the motion. Roll was called and all were in favor. B. GATEWAY Y 1. Staff Review Mr. Robison introduced Mie Cunneen, an engineer who was filling in for consultant Don stastny. lir. Robison discussed the Draft Detailed Access Plan with the use of urge maps. First, he discussed the Forest Corridor, mentioning development options for this area such a a park & ride, a visitor center, and trails. Mr. Robison also talked about the structure of the right-of-way, and mentioned the possibility of a flex zone. He gave a rationale for the Detailed Access Plan, explaining how it incorporates projections for growth. The goal of the plan is to maxi r Y _ Mr. Robison responded to further questions from the Commission. He agreed to give Commission members a list of priority areas in Gateway, and other information necessary for Commission to have a productive workshop meeting on the Gateway topic. A hearing was set for August 1st, and for August 15th in case the hearing needed to be continued. C. TEXT AMENDMENT, MO L DEVINMON 1. Staff Review Mr. Sepler introduced the amendment.
