STAFF PRESENT: Library Director Melody Eisler; Mayor David King, Kit Ward-Crixell
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
The Minutes of July 21, 2015 meeting were unanimously approved
David King gave a brief introduction to City advisory boards
Sarah Fairbank explained obtaining checkout passes to 3 local museums (Aero Museum, Museum of History and Art and the Maritime
Museum. Sarah Fairbank and Mysti Willmon will look into this further.
Mysti Willmon and Melody Eisler gave a recap of the Intellectual Freedom Training that the Library staff and three members of LAB
attended on September 25, 2015. LAB members who missed the training are encouraged to go over the materials and meet with
Melody if they desire to discuss the training and foundational concept for public libraries.
Melody Eisler led a discussion of the Library's Mission Vision and Values for 2015/2016
Ann Healy-Raymond and Melody Eisler gave a report of their recent attendance of the Harwood Institute Meeting
(www.theharwoodinstitute.org) as part of the school and public library collaboration and led a general discussion about ways to
implement some to the ideas presented for community conversations around shared aspirations.
Melody Eisler discussed the interim Meeting Room Policy for community groups to use the Library Learning Center/Pink House for
public meetings. Staff has draft electronic policies in place and will continue to work on library policies. This is an ongoing staff task.
Melody will have a list of policy that need to be created and updated at the next meeting.
Kit Ward-Crixell presented library statistics and talked about looking at qualitative statistics in addition to quantitative statistics.
Melody and Kit presented a list of the Library's most requested books by Port Townsend Patrons. Staff will explore making this
information public through newspaper or other means.
Public Comment: Sidonie Wilson gave public regarding the Children's Services program, wanting to create an open dialogue for
parents and library patrons. She has written a proposal and given a copy to the library. Sidonie Wilson and Sarah McNulty will meet
and continue discussion of Children's Services program.
Ian announced that he would like to step down as Chair, and requested a vote to elect a new chair at the next meeting.
The next meeting will take place on Mon, Nov 24th at 3:30 at the Library Learning Center. This is a change to the 4th Monday of the
month based on a discussion of LAB member availability.
