TRAFFIC ON THE NORTH AND WEST SIDES OF SIMS WAY/
STATE ROAD 20; MAKING VIOLATIONS HEREOF A TRAFFIC
INFRACTION; AND PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES AND EN-
FORCEMENT.
THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION
ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1
For purposes of this Ordinance, "pedestrian" shall mean
any person afoot; and the term "bicycle" shall mean every device
propelled by human power upon which any person may ride, having
one or more wheels, and including but not limited to unicycles,
tricycles, and bicycles having two tandem wheels.
Section 2
A. When travelling in any direction on Sims Way/State
Road 20, between 10th Street and Sheridan Avenue within the City
of Port Townsend, it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian or
bicycle to walk, travel or be operated in or upon the North or
Northwesterly side of Sims Way/State Road 20, or the shoulder on
that side of said street.
B. Ail pedestrians and bicycles, shall walk, travel or
be operated upon only the Southerly or Southeasterly side of Sims
Way/State Road 20, lying between 10th Street and Sheridan Avenue
within the City of Port Townsend, in the lane or lanes designated
for such pedestrian or bicycle travel on the Southerly or South-
easterly side of the fog line or shoulder line of Sims Way/State
Road 20.
Section 3
The Public Works Director for the City shall designate
the areas prohibited to pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and the
areas provided for bicycle and pedestrian traffic, as set forth
in Section 2 of this Ordinance, by the placement of appropriate
signs and road way markings.

Section 4
Any violation of this Ordinance is designated as a traffic
infraction as set forth in Chapter 46.63, revised Code of Washington,
as adopted by the City in Chapter 10.24 of the Port Townsend
Municipal Code, and shall be enforced and administered in accordance
with said laws as a traffic infraction. A person found to have
committed a traffic infraction as defined in this Ordinance shall
be assessed a monetary penalty in the amount of $30.00.
Section 5
This Ordinance shall take effect upon its passage, approval
and publication in the form and manner provided by law.
Read for the first, second and third times, passed by the
City Council for the City of Port Townsend and signed by the'
Mayor this 19th day of May, 1987.
