The City of Port Townsend City Council has adopted changes to PTMC 5.04A, 5.04B and 5.08. These positive changes for small businesses take effect on January 1, 2018. ALL businesses operating in the city of Port Townsend are impacted by these regulation changes. If your business does not generate taxable gross receipts of at least $100,000 in the calendar year, you do not owe tax and are not required to file a return for 2018 activity and beyond. In order to allow the city to keep providing you the same level of service, your annual business license fees will increase as follows: Businesses Reporting Gross Receipts equal to or more than $100,000 $75 per year Businesses Reporting Gross Receipts equal to or more than $20,000 & $75 per year less than $100,000 Businesses Reporting Gross Receipts less than $20,000 $30 per year st Because the State Department of Revenue is not able to make the changes to its licensing portal by January 1, the city will handle your license renewals & additions as follows until their site is updated: 1. The State of Washington Business Licensing System (BLS) will notify you of your license renewal. 2. You will pay the city license fee of $30 on the BLS portal. 3. The City of Port Townsend will invoice you for any remaining balance due, if applicable. When the State Department of Revenue updates the BLS portal to accommodate the licensing fee changes, you will be able to select the license fee that fits your business structure and remit payment directly to the DOR. We anticipate that their site will be updated by Quarter Three of 2018. The Port Townsend City Council adopted Ordinance 3184, on November 6, 2017. To view the full detail of these code changes, you can visit our website at www.cityofpt.us and review Ordinance 3184 by selecting WebLink Documents Online und the City Council tab.
