Police respond to armed suicidal subject
Port Townsend Police officers and deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff s Office responded to Jefferson
Healthcare, 834 Sheridan Street, around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night upon a report of a suicidal man armed with a
knife. A 56-year-old Port Angeles man had entered the emergency room with an eight-inch kitchen knife and
gave his fiancee, a patient at the hospital, a suicide note. He then exited the hospital and walked away.
No threats were made to any hospital staff or the fiancee.
Several residents and businesses in the area were alerted by police to the armed subject in the vicinity and were
warned to stay inside and keep their doors locked.
The man was located sleeping on the hospital grounds about three hours later by officers and taken into
protective custody without incident. The man did not appear to have carried out his suicide threat and
cooperated with officers. He was admitted to the hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation.
The knife was later found by officers stashed outside a house about four blocks away on loth Street.
Also assisting in the search for the armed man was Port of Port Townsend security, and S&S Security of
Harrison Hospital, Bremerton.
