HomeMy WebLinkAbout2118 Animal Control - Requiring Immediate Removal Dog Feces from City ParksORDINANCE NO. 2118 AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE OWNER OR THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF A DOG TO REMOVE ALL FECES DEPOSITED BY SUCH DOG; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR ANY VIOLA TION THEREOF; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. No person owning or in charge of any dog shall cause or allow such dog to soil, defile, or defecate on any property within Kah Tai Park, Chetzemoka Park, John Pope Park, including Seavey Memorial Sculpture project, or Cherry Street Park, within the City of Port Townsend. Section 2. Any person owning or in charge of any dog which soils, defiles or defecates in any park shall immediately remove all feces deposited by any such dog, in a sanitary manner. Section 3. The feces removed from the aforementioned designated areas shall be disposed of by the person owning or in charge of any such dog in a sealed, non-absorbent, leak-proof container. Section 4. Any violation of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be a civil infraction, and any person found in violation thereof shall be subject to a penalty not to exceed $100. Section 5. The provisions of this Ordinance shall not apply to blind persons who may use dogs as guides. Section 6. This Ordinance shall be added as a new chapter to Title 8 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code. Section 7. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its passage, approval and publication in the form and manner provided by law. Read for the first, second and third times, passed by the City Council for the City of Port Townsend and approved by the Mayor on this 2nd day of August, 1988.
