Special meeting; concerning; gift of Books from private party.
Members of the Library Board met March 12, at 7:30P.M. to dis-
cuss and decide upon a proposdd gift of a private collection of
Books.
Mrs Wallin reviewed what she foubd, when she visited the would -be
donor in San Francisco.
His collection is approximately 10,000volumes.
Many of the books had price marks ranging from 25 to 50 cents.
There were many special categories to be cons9.dered.
There are many duplications in the collection, and many of the
books we have on our shelves.
There are some rare books in the collection, which could or
could not be of value.
Mrs 'Nallin pointed out that excepting these books would involve
not only transfortation costs, storage problems, but also
many, many hours of work would be involved in their disposition.
After lengthy consideration and debate by the members, Iilr
Nichols moved that we are not in a position to handle this gift
at the Port Townsend Library, and it would not be feasible for
us to accept it. Motion Carried.
The secretary was :instructed to write a letter of thanks to
Dr Carter in appreciation of his interest.
