HomeMy WebLinkAbout022382,.w PORT TOWNSEND PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING -- February 23, 1982 Present: Konrad Schwencke, Vicki Lea- Shelton, John Marckworth, Laurie Stewart, Beverly Lamb, Hazel Lewis Meeting called to order 8:10pm. Minutes of January 26, 1982 meeting approved. Librarian's Report: Report handed out at meeting.' General discussion followed. Committee Laurie Stewart listed 5 items that need immediate Reports: attention: M & R: 1) The sight glass on the boiler leaks about one gallon of water per hour and should be repaired. Rob will check it over and may call Ben's Heating. 2) Electrical wiring in the northeast basement corner looks dangerous. Rob will also see how difficult replacement will be for installing wiring to code. 3) Remove a panel for air return between the furnace room and the office area. 4) Remove microfilm reader from hall. 5) Find a dry -place for shelving that is currently in the wet boiler room. County Lib- rar Board: Vicki Lea - Shelton attended the February Library Board meeting to learn more about the county's library building plans. The county planning office sent a representative to suggest possible sites. The county board was also encouraged to attend the WLN meeting in Port Angeles on February 24. Carol Baird, the Planning Project Coordinatorfalso attended. Vouchers: Signed. Unfinished Flagpole is finished and in working order! Business: Industrial insurance for volunteers is still being evaluated. RSVP can take care of insurance for those over 60. 1981 Expenditures analysis in March. New Revenue Sharing Funds will be spent on children's Business: books. Bev will write to the city council telling them how the money is to be spent. The Friends of the Library received a gift of $1,000 from Jane Carlsen prior to her death. When the Friends give books to the library, it is understood that those gifts will be spent in addition to the book budget. A "Human Resource Committee" has been formed by the city council. The library falls under that committee. Bev will send a "State of the Library" letter to the mayor and city council for the 1st quarter. Quarterly reports /communications will follow thereafter. The $3,600 difference in continued: the 1981 budget & expenditures may be added to the 1982 budget. Final word will not be available until late in the year. Bev was requested to get information in writing from the mayor's office. Discussion about formulating a plan for the library building resulted in a decision to do __ much research and background with willing volunteers and the board prior to encumbering any funds. When there is more information about costs, the board will determine funding possibilities, including the regular library budget, checking with the state library for grant possibilities, checking with the historical society. Konrad Schwencke will contact the county library board chairman to see if the boards might meet together to share their plans and concerns. The -board approved $80 for Bev's expenses to go to the Washington Library Association conference in April. The board discussed the possibility of providing a "home- type" computer for the use of library patrons. John Marckworth is the committee on computers. The meeting was adjourned . . . late.
