HomeMy WebLinkAbout0831870 4 PORT TOWNSEND LIBRARY BOARD REGULAR MEETING August 31, 1987 CALL TO ORDER 7 :20 pm. Present: Sidle, Watson, Steurer, Kaiser; Mary Norwood, Bev Lamb `, Sign vouchers. LIBRARIAN: Budget shortfall for Jan -Feb, also at present; reasons relating to City budget system. Discussion of reserve fund to even out yearly pattern. Mention of computAr wipe —out, material still available. More lasercat items being acquired. All cataloging now done on computer., Chidren's program for summer is successful. Plans for fund— raiser, Carnegie Days, Sept. 27 COM[ TTT r S4,- 14 Personnel — in progress. Fund— raising -- mailing, ads, speeches, parade plannirg in progress. Budget -- Lars described need to include Library Director's salary in budget figures. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Trustee workshop, Spokane and Bellevue in October, more details at next meeting. Beth Dejarnette, leave of absence. ` MOTION, MSC, Carol Baker to be paid at rate of $7.50 during October, as sub for Beth.. .Dane Steurer's term as Trustee expires soon, will write letter to Mayor. 91 BUDDET PROCESS: Four members at City Council meeting. Mayor was against the suggested 20% increase. Need to set priorities. Suggested 16% increase including director's salary. This will be less than the step plan. Also a request for $5 thousnad, to replace that taken out of book fund last year. Tentatively 14% ino /cease over 1987. This may mean a different step system; may be adjusted internally, not by percent. If not acceptable to staff, book money can again be taken. Necessity of having a constant library presence during the whole budget process. Budget is sent to Grove about Sept. 18. Discussion of how to maintain presence, and share of city revenue. MOTION, MSC, to adopt proposed budget as presented by Budget Committee, LIBRARY CHARGE PRACTICE Our library pays for first $50 use of DSALOGseareh; this includes some County users. This is not available at the County Library. County Library is charging for interlibrary loans. Kaiser and Van Dyke are Policy Committee; to look into interlibrary charges inb„pluding DIAIOG. Noting County use of City Library, County people should be solicited for City Library capital funding. MOTION, MSC, to remove charge for use of main computer, as recommended by Librarian, S�C�c10.iy�
