HomeMy WebLinkAbout033187PORT TOWNSEND CITY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING March 31, 1987 Call to order 7 :15 pm. Present Board members Sidle, Van Dyke, Watson, Kaiser, City Council member Mazy Norwood, Librarian Bev Lamb. Minutes of previous meeting were read; moved, seconded and carried to accept. LIBRARIAN's REPORT: Children's Librarian: classroom visits. Lasercat system, for staff use, updated 4 times a year. Electrical service being put in to operating area. LSCA Funds being used, COMMITTEE REPORTS - Personnel Committee working on pay schedules. Budget - details of first two months. Board decided to send letter of appreciation to Laurie Stewart for service on the Board; and a book donated to library in his name. Discussion of desirability of a letter or plaque for use in rec &gnizing service of individuals for the city. GRANT APPLICATION for building funds, to City Council asking for supporting resolution. Asking support, not funds at this time. Discussion of the grant application to LSCA, whether to submit this year. Plan to start fund - raising effort in May of this year, mailings etc. Possibility of proceeding in two steps; question of how volunteer labor counts, also in kind donations. MOTION moved, seconded, carried to go for $9,000 grant. Presentation to Chamber of Commerce April 6 for letter of support; and on May 11 for grant information etc. Letters of support needed, to Wash. Library Commission: Historical Society, School Board, Main Street, Hospital Adminisiation, etc. General organization headed by Sue Sidle, with three branches of work, Recognition of donors; list, probably by amount- range; possible on tiles in new building. Medical Leave request by staff member: not settled. NEW BUSINESS; Question of video lending; would be mostly topics of health, various aspects of learning. Not settled. Trustee liability; probable State legislstive action. Possible Board activity in liaison with legislature.
