Minutes of Nov. 28 regular meeting: discussion of expanding, perhaps taping when contract work starts. Minutes MSApproved, Library Director: monthly expenses /budget, no problems. Circulation up 30%6 over last year; along with a short -- handed staff. Beth: H.S. Junior Class will go through Discover Program. School helping with cost through March 189. Also others of public, heard about it and asked to run through. Fax grant approved. Beth is cooperating with County Library on 4 children's films in January. Board retreat will be January 21. Sue and Bev will assemble agenda. Margaret Lee, resident of corner house, described frustrations on getting answers on fate of house described neighborhood value. Board responded with assuranve of interest, mentioned slowness of decision, partly because so many affairs were in progress and unresolved. Building Committee: Board discussed new version of basic plan; suggestions on Listening room, and possibilities of better use of space in multi.- purpose room on second floor. Also concept of inereasigg foundations looking ahead to possible expansion of new space to second floor. Expansion laterally, to rear or toward corner lot, equally possible, perhaps preferable. Hiring date for Bob Little - agreed to be when responsibility needed, probably when bid documents begin to take shape. A meeting of Building Committee to go over new version of plans was discussed, postponed to a general meeting with Architect and others, especially because of adjusting wish list to restraints of building and fire codes. Bev will check for dates. Personnel - Anne's work on evaluations is in progress. Staff - Beth - on search for temporary functional location. Several are negative: Ft. Worden, Fakkgrounds. At Castle Hill Plaza, two spaces, each about 3000 sq. ft., open for rental now - note that library use will not start until early summer. These are favorable for parking and loading facilities, one has handicap -use bathroom. Heating extra; wiring for phones, kachines, needed here as elsewhere. Rental would be reasonable, possibly negotiable with owner. Lincoln school: structural- safety problems apparently over -- stated; plenty of space, although £bore above basement require use of stairs. Wiring required. Major item is lack of heat; old boiler is not functional, heating would be elictric, with major rewiring needed for heavy load. Location is a very favorable factor. Beth recommended going over in detail with school grounds personnel and staff, and library selected persons; points of desirability and availability. Bev mentioned library closing before New Year. Adjourned 9 :10 pm. Secretary,, E. P. Kaiser
