HomeMy WebLinkAbout020989I] Library Board Meeting February 9, 1989 Present: 8wen.Howardv Lars Watson, Sue Sidle, Pete Kaiser, Anne 8teurer Guests: Mike Mortenson, Barbara Kaiser, Beverly Lamb Building Project-- There was some discussion concerning the advisability of postponing replacement of asbestos shingles on Carnegie Building. While this represents a cost savings it could Prove costly in the future. This is a decision which can be deferred until farther along in the design/bid process. The Board discussed the recommendation of the Building Committee that the architects be instructed to proceed with design development of designs presented at the Feb. 7 meeting. After some discussion it was moved and seconded that the architects be so instructed providing such designs fall within the framework of our budget. Motion passed' The Board discussed the shed-roof configuration over the stairway which appears in current designs vs. the flat-roof design in earlier plans. It was moved and seconded that the architects be instructed to go back to the flat roof design without skylighting. Motion passed. Site development-- Mike Mortenson will develop cost estimates for grading and Paving work called for in the original, 1986 feasibility study. These figures will be presented to the City Council in order to indicate corner lot costs which will be covered in our current budget & the scope of unbudgeted costs. Circulation/work areas-- Barbara Kaiser discussed the importance and rationale behind individual work stations 8 shared work space. There was general discussion as to the location of the circulation desk relative to the children's area. There was general agreement that we want to plan for^maximum flexibility in current and future location! for the circulation area. BJL 40
