Present :Watson, Sidle, Steurer, Mortenson; Director Shelton, Jean Dunbar, Friends of the Library; Sheila Westerman, City Council. Minutes of last meeting approved. LIBRARY: new copy machine being purchased. Old one of little value. Jean suggested donation to Chamber office, may be better than theirs. Budget was discussed. Meeting Room was used 31 times in month. Video equipluent is at High School, being used; may move all video to Library to allow more use by students; in accordance with grant terms, could be restricted to students part time. FRIENDS: Jean reported book sale a success. Reported on bank funds. Approved Copier; and Bike Rack is ready to be installed. Fund raising to be considered. As to Sunday opening with volunteers, most are burned out; consider later. B. J. Russell is to be on Landscape Committee. As to Art Exhibits, good but lots of work. As to Adventures in Learning, Peg Lewis is travelling; later. Children's room: needs group seating, possible bldg by woodworking class at school. Bev commented it isn't sure what is needed; consider tpbents and big kids. MOTION, MSA, thanking Friends of the Library for copier. PUBLIC: Barbara Marseille spoke on fate of old books in shelves of Carnegie Room, possible stealing, need protection. Bev says doubtful if worth keeping, and is not in favor of locked cases. Better to sort, keep some and sell rest. Kaiser offered to make list. CORRESPONDENCE: Pt. Townsend Arts Commission interested in public 'forum' for poetry and prose, place for 'juried' displays. Possibly Library Board could jury; Bev remarked not in their job description. As to displays, Board again prefers limited time, not permanent. Sue commented OK in principle, to be worked out, offered to be rep to Arts Comm. Board signified interest, desire to work with the Commission. They should be able to help with rotating art exhibits. BUILDING: Specs for Roof job finished, advertised, bid opening Sept. 11. Some responses are for only part of the job. LANDSCAPING: Make described Committee, chaired by Gwen. Jean said B.J. Russell to be member. Bev said funds not set, may be up to $10 thou. Received 5 applications for Designer, Committee is visiting examples of work. Outside Water Taps: Mike will talk to plumbers. Locations not fixed, related to earth moving for landscaping. MOTION: Mike to look into plans and costs, MSA. Lars and Sue mentioned that remaining bldg. fund is committed to roof. Lister lines and taps to be paid otherwise. BOARD MEETINGS: need special meeting for roof job approval: Sept. 17. And Regular Meeff g for vouchers etc., Sept. 24. r� L PORT TOWNSEND PUBLIC LIBRARY Regular Meeting August 27, 1990 —2— PUBLIC INPUT — Kaiser described existing planting in front of Library, #3 on map of grounds, and suggested that it be exempted from removal or significant alteration by new landscaper. Described 13anting as successful, very drought — tolerant, and well known on street. After discussion, MOTION , MSA: Regaxding the existing planting between the front steps, No. 3 on the map: The consensus of the Library Board is that the planting was well done and has performed well under drought conditions; and that i* may be considered essentially completed. This does not preclude addition and replacement of plants as desired, and installation of a watering system. The Library Board asks the Landscape Committee to discuss this, and to consider incorporating this view of Planting axea No. 3 in their instructions for the Landscape Designer. BUDGET, 1991: Need service agreement on Elevator, add to budget. Also to use 49/6 figure on personnel costs to match City. Sue mentioned that the new schedule with Monday opening 1 -5 pm. is included in 1991 Budget. MOTION. MSA: To accept 1991 budget presentation-"as described. Bev — another supplementary Budget for Bn3lding will be submitted. . Anne -- working on IRS return for Friends, has extension. As to Pink House, City to decide soon whether to use for City space.
