RESOLUTION NO. 13-030
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN
AMENDMENT TO THE EXISTING AGREEMENT WITH THE TEAMSTERS LOCAL
NO. 589 (REPRESENTING POLICE OFFICERS) RELATING TO COST OF LIVING
CALCULATIONS AND RETIREMENT INCENTIVE
WHEREAS, the City Manager has preliminarily negotiated terms that modify the
existing Agreement with the Teamsters Local No. 589 (representing Police Officers) to provide
for cost of living calculations and retirement incentive.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
The City Manager is authorized to execute an agreement or agreements with the
Teamsters Local No. 589 (representing Police Officers) to modify the existing agreement to
provide:
• Cost of living adjustment benchmarks and step schedules
• Retirement incentive providing an officer who provides 12 months notice of a retirement
dates eligible for escrowed 2% of their compensation and 75% of accumulated sick leave
credited to the officer's retirement account or payment of up to 50% of accumulated sick
leave. (This recognizes that it can take a year to fill an open position, and allows the City
to commence a hiring process to fill open positions to minimize gaps in coverage.)
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 21 st day of October 2013.
