HomeMy WebLinkAbout2948 Helmet Requirement and Declaring Actions Needed to Implement Comprehensive Bicycle Education Program Ordinance No. 2948 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND REPEALING SECTION 10.32.130 AND AMENDING SECTIONS 10.32.010 AND .140 OF THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO HELMET REQUIREMENTS AND DECLARING ACTIONS NEEDED TO IMPLEMENT A COMPREHENSIVE BICYCLE EDUCATION PROGRAM The City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains as follows: SECTION 1. Repeal. That portion of Ordinance 2906, and PTMC 10.32.130, which reads as follows, is repealed (repealed material is shown in strikeout): 111.32.130 Helmet required. !.. !.ny ]3erson who operates or rides a bieyde or recreational vehicle or horse in or Ujlon _y public area shall wear a helmet. SECTION 2. Amendment. That portion of Ordinance 2906 and PTMC 10.32.010 which reads as follows is amended as set forth (strike is deleted, underlined is added): 10.32.010 Definition. A "bicycle" is defined as any two-wheeled vehicle, or any unicycle or tricycle, propelled by pedals, and not required to be licensed as a motor vehicle under the laws of the state. "Helmet" means a head cO'iering that meets or eKceeds safety standards adopted by StanEiard Z 99.1 set by the American NatioHa! Stanaanls Institute (ANSI), er the Snell falHldation, or standanls adapted by the Uaited States Censamer Preduet Safety Commission (CPSC), or such sooseE}Hent nationally recognized standard for bicyde helmet performance as the State of Washington may adopt.
