HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-015 Authorizing CM to extend current contract with DM disposal for solid waste and recycling collection; 2nd 5yr term RESOLUTION NO. 07-015 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON authorizing the City Manager to extend the current contract with DM Disposal Company for solid waste and recycling collection and billing within the City for a second five-year term. WHEREAS, The City of Port Townsend entered in to a contract on 29 March 2002 with DM Disposal Company for solid waste collection, recycling collection, and billing services within the City; and WHEREAS, this contract runs from I May 2002 to 31 December 2007 during its initial term and provides for two automatic, additional 5-year extensions to the contract; and WHEREAS, either party may terminate the contract by providing written notice to the other party at least 180 days prior to the end of the applicable term (4 July 2007 for the current contract term); and WHEREAS, DM Disposal Company has provided good service, overall, with relatively small rate increases (+5.6% for commercial and +7.5% for residential accounts) over the past 5 years; and WHEREAS, any renegotiation of a new contract would require extensive staff time and effort with no assurance of obtaining better contract conditions in light of recent fuel and labor-related cost increases; and WHEREAS, the City staffwill continue to work with DM Disposal to make improvements in the solid waste and recycling programs within the scope of the contract provlslOns. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Port Townsend as follows: that the City Manager is authorized to extend the current solid waste and recycling collection contract with DM Disposal Company for a second five- year term.
