HomeMy WebLinkAbout080112 Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting Minutes August 1, 2012, 1:30-3:30, Upstairs Meeting Room,City Hall Present: Stan Rubin, Nancy Rody, Erin Fristad, Linda Okazaki, Rosalind Russell, Dan Groussman (minutes) Excused: Kris Morris Minutes approval: EF moves to accept minutes with some minor spelling corrections,2nd by SR, unanimous approval. Chair's Report: SR discussed the"hold harmless" clause update regarding public functions sponsored by PTAC. More info on this topic to follow. Cotton Building to be used for Artist Trust upcoming program. LO says we need blackout curtains for that room since so many events require a light-free environment. Motion: LO moves that the PTAC directs a letter to The City requesting the buying acquisition of blackout curtains for the Cotton Building for the purpose of hosting events requiring such features. EF 2"d, unanimous approval. Funding Support: SR informed commissioners that there are currently no new applications for financial support. SR to put a notice on bareboards. DG to draft a public notice to inform local arts entities that performances or projects that benefit the public may be able to receive PTAC support. Arts Commission Vacancies: SR reports there are no new Commission applicants. Old Business: DR to follow up with Jacob Kohn regarding the condition of his aquarium works that he would like to donate to someone willing to receive and display them. DG said he's been in dialogue with the artist and is addressing the factors related to the works in regards to their current limited storage arrangement. DG to contact Anne Murphy at the Marine Science Center as a possible new home for these works. Treasurer's Report: LO reports$4250 after the Arts to Elders and Porter funding support amounts are disbursed. The Film Institute(under the Port Townsend Film Festival) is working in conjunction with Goddard College to seek funding support for their upcoming programs. LO reports that they are looking for ways to assist speakers/instructors for their free programs. The Commission expressed enthusiasm in support of programs that benefits the public. Public Art: SR has appointed EF to the position of Public Art Chair to fill in for KM who resigned for health reasons. The Commissioners present collectively wish her well hope for a speedy recovery. EF reports that the Artist Selection Panel has received 17 applications for the Uptown Project. She says the applications represent a highly skilled and diverse array of artists. EF reports that the selection process is moving along nicely-we should have 5 finalists by Aug 16,each to receive$300 to support their final proposal.
