He then asked the nine citizens at the meeting what they saw as the challenges and opportunities, and what their vision is for the park. The following summarizes their feedback: Vision: 1. Make it an asset. 2. It raises property values. 3. Kids can have fun there, as well as seniors. 4. It provides a view for the neighborhood. 5. It contains a playground that is sized just right, for example includes a swing set. 6. It provides open space. 7. The park includes a buffer area(i.e. trees), and a fence with a gate. The border includes a mix of plantings. 8. Operations—that the park be well-maintained by the City Parks crew. 9. It provides a community space for the people that live in the neighborhood. 10. Trash cans and doggie bags are provided. 11. The park needs to have a great name. 12. The park provides community. Concerns: 1. No restrooms will provided. 2. Safety—regarding plantings, don't want them to get so large that they provide hiding places for dangerous characters. 3. Safety—for the kids and others that use it. 4. Fence—for the neighbors. 5. View—concerned that it is across from Kosec's funeral home. 6. Trash—how to keep the park clean. 7. Maintenance of the plantings and playground equipment. 8. A couple of off-street parking spaces should be provided (even though it is assumed that most people who use the park will not drive there). 9. How to define the entrance(s) to the park. 10. Dogs, and what they leave. 11. Local foraging deer will eat the plantings. 12. Park activity increases the noise in the neighborhood. Opportunities: 1. To provide a park that will appeal to kids as well as other age groups. 2. To provide a picnic table. 3. To provide an interactive apparatus for kids to play with.
