Meeting Agenda

1. Call to order — roll call.
2. Approval of Jan 22, 2013 agenda.
3. Approval of Nov 27, 2012 minutes.
4. PRT work plan 2013:
a. Tree City USA:
i. Accept proclamation from Mayor at City Council before tree
planting Feb 23, 2013.
ii. Planting at Kah Tai Park in conjunction with Jefferson
County Conservation District plant sale Feb 23, 2013. Forty
native trees and 90 native shrubs. (Approved by Rick Sepler
and Steve Wright.) Include a press release of the event.
iii. Tree walk for Arbor Day? Date? Using the Significant Trees
of PT city property brochure?
iv. Report on progress of Haines street cottages planting. (Ron)
b. Create Significant Trees brochure of PT city property. Significant
trees on city right of ways will need to reviewed on a case by case
basis — if in developed ROW that is unlikely to change vs. one that
may need to be opened etc.
i. Decide on significant trees on city property. Nominations
from PRT board. Select a work group to decide which
nominated trees will be included in the brochure?
ii. Debbie creates brochure.
iii. Cost for printing. $74+tax for 500 8.5X11 double sided,
colored paper, tri-fold brochure for AAS 1-7-2013. Funding
source?
c. Volunteers for our parks:
i. PRT board chair contact Steve Wright before PRT board
meeting to assess volunteer need. Not until weeding is
needed in spring.
ii. City website notification of volunteer events. Any progress?

iii. Ideas regarding organizing volunteerism for PRT. When
we were painting at the pool as volunteers in December,
we had some useful and positive discussions with our
pool manager about the prospect of more organized
and regular volunteerism to help at the pool. (Debbie)
d. Complete Park Functional Plan
Rosemary Sikes and Debbie Jahnke on subcommittee with 2
members of Planning Commission. Update if subcommittee has
met before Jan 22.
5. 2013 operating budget for parks and recreation to better understand
the funding constraints under which our parks department is
operating for maintenance, etc. and any possibilities for Arbor Day
tree plantings (spring and autumn) next year... or if we should solicit
donations for same.
6. Who among us volunteered to talk to the City Parks staff about their
plant/tree nursery stock to see what might be available to us to plant
for Arbor Day. Debbie wonders if there might be a way for volunteers
to help with a nursery effort to stock young plants and trees for future
efforts. (Rosemary)
7. Metropolitan Park District: Report on Jan 10 special PRT meeting
and Jan 14 City Council workshop.
8. Marion Huxtable asked Lys Burden "between the Cotton Building and
the Wave Viewing Gallery has a bare patch of ground that looks like it is
waiting for landscaping. Do you have any idea if it is planned?" Rick
Sepler wrote "City has secured funding from County's Public Infrastructure
Fund to complete this area from Pope Marine to Quincy Street (between
Cotton Building and Wave Gazing area. Project has been designed and is
going to bid. Yay!"
