HomeMy WebLinkAbout042412 OF PORT TOE � ys ti v o City of Port Townsend � w Meeting Minutes Parks, Recreation and Trees Advisory Board Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm City Hall Meeting Room#1 L Meeting called to order at 5:05 pm by Vice President, Rosemary Sikes. Members in attendance: Lys Burden; Matt Berberich(now retired from the board) also attended; Forest Shomer arrived quite late, now also retired from the board. Staff: Judy Surber Visitors: Debbie Jahnke 11. Approval of New Agenda—Meeting agenda approved unanimously. III. Approval of Minutes—Approval of meeting minutes from 3-27-2012 was tabled until the next meeting. IV. Arbor Day Tree Planting—Judy Surber Staff picked a small, tough tree to plant, a Cryptomeria cultivar called Black Dragon, at Rotary Park near the ferry dock on Arbor Day, Friday, April 271h from 9 am until noon. The City parks crew will also bring flowers to plant. All park board members and volunteers are invited to help. Judy placed announcements in the papers. The City will bring shovels and a photo of the event will be taken. Volunteer registration and sign-in will be required. V. Update on Parkside Project—Rosemary and Matt attended the first meeting at Seaport Landing, mostly for adjacent landowners and families living withing 300- feet of the site (about 10 people attended). The next meeting will be more inclusive, as the park will serve about 400 families, including those living in adjacent trailer parks and high-density housing. Adjacent neighbors were initially opposed, but were encouraged to learn that vegetation buffers and a fence were planned to provide privacy for adjacent houses. VI. Board Member Renewals Matt Berberich confirmed that he will not renew his 3-year commitment to serve on the advisory board, but he will stay a short time until more board members are appointed. Forest is still undecided. Their terms expire in May, 2012. The advisory board still needs more members; the City is reviewing Debbie Jahnke's application status. VII. Future Meeting Agenda Items - a. Report needed from our reps on the Exploratory Regional Parks and Recreation Committee (ERPRC). b. City Report tabled until staff is in attendance in June c. Arbor Day 2012 is on April 27th, three days after the next meeting (prep needed now). VIII. Board and Visitor Comment— IX. Adjournment—Meeting adjourned at 6:30pm.
