A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY CO CIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO AP L Y FOR THE DESIGNA nON OF THE CITY
OF PORT TOWNSEND AS A 'RESERVE AMERICA COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, Preserve America is White House initiative developed in cooperation
with the Advisory Council on Historic Pres rvation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the
U.S. Department of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, the goals of this initia ve include a greater shared knowledge about our
Nation's past, strengthened regional identiti s and local pride, increased local participation in
preserving the country's irreplaceable cui I and natural heritage assets, and support for the
economic vitality of communities; and
WHEREAS, this initiative is comp tible with our community's interests and goals
related to historic preservation; and
WHEREAS, designation as a Prese e America Community will improve our
community's ability to protect and promote' ts historical resources;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Port Townsend that:
SECTION 1. The Mayor will sign jm application for the designation of the City of Port
Townsend as a Preserve American community.
SECTION 2. The City Council of e City of Port Townsend will protect and celebrate
our heritage, use our . storic assets for economic development and
community revitaliza ion, and encourage people to experience and
appreciate local histo . c resources through education and heritage tourism
programs.
ADOPTED by the City Co cil of the City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this twenty-fir t day of November, 2005.
