The City Council of the City of Port Townsend met in regular session this 4th day of June, 1974, at

7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, mayor Joseph B. Steve presiding.
ROLL CALL
Officers and members present were as follows: mayor Steve, City Attornl3Y Abraha~, City Engineer French,
City Clerk-Treasurer mcCoy, and Councilmen Black, Spindor, Parker, Camfield, Judy,=Ciprioti and Klenk.

It was moved by Councilman Camfield, seconded by Councilman Ciprioti, that the reading of the minutes
of the previous session be dispensed with. motion carried.

A letter from the Chamber of Commerce, inviting the mayor, Clerk, Engineer and Council to the "Welcome
to State ferry Service" ceremony on June 6, 1974 at 11:30 A.m.
A letter from the Historical Society requesting the Council to steam clean the floor and clean and
paint the walls in the old fire hall. ~fter discussion of funds available and hour to most economically accomplish
these needs, any action was tabled.
commITTEE REPORTS

City Engineer French made a report on the progress and importance of the EPA questionnaire, particularl~
that part which relates to 90% matching funds.
Councilman Judy complimented mr. french, Engineer, on his work on the Union Wharf and surrounding area
sewer project.
mayor Steve reminded the Council of the Aeed for the City to replace the Animal Control van. It was
moved by Councilman J~dy, seconded by Councilman Klenk, that bids be let to purchase said vehicle. Bids to be
opened at the Ju~y 2 council meeting.
BID OPENING

One bid was received and opened for the 20-acre thinning timber sale at Lord's Lake. It was for
the gross, figured at the scaling shack. After much discussion in regard to the City's net from this sale,
engineering department's debt and related budget problems, it was moved by Councilman Ciprioti, seconded by
cilman Black, to combine with 90 acres a,nd reject the bid received.

PUBLIC HEARING
The public hearing date for the Pedersen variance was reset fo! June 1E1, 1974.
The Harold T. martin variance request to build an addition on the rear of their house, which wou~d leave
only 12 feet. from the rear property line of Block 266, south of Sims Way, except Eiast 50 feet. It was mov~d by
Councilman Camfield, seconded by Councilman Black, that the variance be granted. motion carried.

The Scott-Deleo street vacation hearing of Cleveland Street between 10t.h and 11th Streets, which had been
previously tabled, was reopened. It was moved by C~uncilman Cipriot~, seconded by Councilman Judy, that the
vacation be denied. motion carried. . .
OLD BUSINESS
ORDINANCE NO. 1707

AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO DANCES AND DANCE HALLS AND REPEALING
ORDINANCES NO. 871 AND 1610.
Ordinance No. 1707,was ~ead by titl, only for the second and third times. Th~~e was much discussion
and a presentation regarding proposed amendments. Since the ordinance was so long, it seemed awkward to make
said amendments and review the resulting context at the meeting. Therefore, it was moved by Councilman Klenk,
seconded by Councilman Ciprioti, that the ordinance not be passed. Vote was 7 yes; motion carried.
A public hearing date was set for the vacation of that part of ~ Street. lying between Rose and Willow
Streets for July 2, 1974.
