HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-032 Authorizing Acceptance of COPs Grant from US Dept. of Justice Resolution 12-032 COPS Grant RESOLUTION NO. 12-032 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE COPS HIRING PROGRAM (CHP) WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend applied to the United States Department of Justice COPS Hiring Program grant; and WHEREAS, the CHP grant provides 75 percent entry level salary and benefits funding up to $125,000 to retain a police officer for 3 years; and WHEREAS, the City seeks to utilize CHP grant funds to retain the 15"'police officer position currently not budgeted past August 2012; and WHEREAS, The CHP grant would provide federal funding for 75 percent of the 15th officer position for 3 years, with the City funding the position for a minimum of one year following the federally funded 3 years; and WHEREAS, the goal of the CHP is to enhance community oriented policing capacity and improve problem solving efforts; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the United States Department of Justice Cops Hiring Program grant.
