Home My WebLink About06/21/1966 21 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF JUNE 7th 1966 CONTINUED 8 Mrs Lee Davis spoke before the council saying that the historical society wfJ.5comJhiling the history of Jefferson County and'since the city council 8.nd the county commissioners and the chamber of commerce are the three bodies in this community that are interested in puch a type of promotion of culture to the community and that the chamber of commerc.e änd the county commissioners had endorced the project and would like to have the city council do the same. It was moved by Councilman Ruby seconded by Councilman Judy that the city couhcil endorce the project of the Historical society. Motion carried. ADJOURNMENT I As there was no "further business to come before the council at this time it was moved gy councilman Siebenbaum seconded by councilman Judy that the meeting å.o now adjourn. COMl\MJICATIONS The following co~unication was read and acted. upon as follows: From Port Townsend Qhamber of Commerce, June 20, 1966 to-wi t: 8 The City Council, Port Townsend, Wash~ngton Gentlemen: I Would it mee t wi th the Councils approval for the Chamber of Commerce to explore the possibility¡ of g~an ts for res toration of His torical Sights or the Federal Progr.91ns for Individual & community improvements. This would be to find out just what sort of conditions must be met if such funds are to be obtained! The main thought in point was the possible improvement of the City Hall. There was no intent of pushing for improvements but just to see what conditions would be required. If the Council has no objection we had a motion made and p8.ssed at todays meeting to find out some of the details involved. We do not wish to presume on any of the Citys initiative in the matter but more in the spmrit of cooperation. Very Sincerely, . E. R. NEW & OLD BUSINESS Councilman Hoglund said he would like to pospone the meeting of the finance committee from the 28th of June until the l~th of July, the rea'son being that the elerk then would be in a position to project future revenues as well as balance for the six Inonth period. 8 Councilman Judy reported that a sign was in the walk at the corner of Quincy and Water street that people were having to walk out in the street to get around the sign. Mayor Sullivan asked the Chief of Police to take care of the matter. Councilman Judy also reported that the sidewalk by theTown Tavern was in need of repairs, that it was in a hazardeouãs condition, he asked who was responsiblø the city or the owner, he was informed that it was up to the owner to repair the sidewalk, Councilman Judy said he WJ uld contact the "WIler. -. COM~ITTEE REPORTS I Councilman Judy reported that he had contacted the town tavern on the condition of the side walk and informed them that it was up to them to repair the sidewalk, he said that if that had to repair it they would leave it äS it was. No further action was taken. Councilman Sweitzer reported on the request of the chamber of commerce letter on getting. matching funds for the restoration of historical buildings, he said that he did not see Mr May, .! but had contacted other members of the chamber. Councilman Sweitzer said that he thought that it should be up to the planning commission or Historical Society to look into the matter. Mayor ~ullivan said ~hat he woul~ like to ~è:l.ve Counc.ilman Swei~zer keep in touch with the chamber just ln case they dld come up wlth somethlng to reé:tore the clty hall as a historical buIlding. Councilman Lindsey reported that he had a c8.11 asking 'where they could dispose öf a cpuple' .; of cats, he told them to call Mayor Sullivan. Mayor Sullivan commented that the humane shelter was in a mess, thCit he had went out änd cleaned the ~lace up, and that he was trying to find' someone to take over the place but so far no sucess and that if no one could be found by the 1st of August the place wo ~d have to be closed. I Mayor Sullivan informed the council that he had received word from Olympia that the City had !: received the 218,000.00 federal grant for the treament center and pump stations.
