HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-023 Authorizing Grant Application Washington State Dept. of Transportation - Safe Routes To School Resolution 12-023 Safe Routes to School Grant RESOLUTION NO. 12-023 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR A GRANT FROM THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to apply for a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School; and WHEREAS, Safe Routes to School grants are awarded for improvements that get more children walking and bicycling to school safely, reduce congestion around schools, and improve air quality; and WHEREAS, Safe Routes to School grants consist of three components: engineering and infrastructure improvement, education/encouragement activities, and enforcement; and WHEREAS, the City's grant request is to complete sidewalks and crosswalk upgrades servicing the Grant Street Elementary School on Sheridan Street between 14th Street and 191h Street ; and WHEREAS, the City's grant request is for$497,913 for Engineering and Infrastructure with a$59,768 Engineering and Infrastructure match plus a$2,000 match for Education/Encouragement and a$2,000 match for Enforcement; and WHEREAS, the grant period is from September 2013 through September 2015; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for the Washington State Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School grant. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting thereof, held this 4`l' day of June 2012.
