RESOLUTION NO. 04-065
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN AN INTERLOCAL
AGREEMENT WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT NO.6
FOR JOINT OPERATIONS UNDER THE COMMAND OF THE FIRE CHIEF
WHEREAS, Chapter 39.34 RCW permits local governmental units to make official use
of their powers enabling them to cooperate with other localities on the basis of mutual advantage;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council determines an agreement for joint operations and
management, on a trial basis, with Jefferson County Fire Protection District No.6 is beneficial to
see if joint operations provide efficiencies, savings, and increased level of service; and
WHEREAS, during the trial basis, the City and District will review whether additional
consolidation measures will benefit the citizens of the City and the District; and
WHEREAS, the City and District are not committing to additional consolidation
measures at this time, and any such decision must be approved by the City Council and District
Board of Commissioners.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend that the City Manager is authorized to enter into an Interlocal Agreement with
Jefferson County Fire District #6 for joint organizational structure under the command of the
City Fire Chief, on the terms recommended by the General Government Committee, and subject
to approval of contract terms by the City Manager, and City Attorney (as to form of contract).
ADOPTED by the City Council ofthe City of Port Townsend at a special business
meeting thereof, held this thirteenth day of December, 2004.
