HomeMy WebLinkAbout3073 Amending Chapter 10.28.010 of PTMC Establishing Speed Limits Ordinance 3073 Amending PTMC 10.28 Page 1 of 2 Ordinance No. 3073 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING CHAPTER 10.28.010 OF THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS WHEREAS, with the completion of the roundabout on SR-20 at Howard Street, it is necessary to adjust the speed limit transition from 40 mph to 30 mph to better account for the location of the roundabout and its associated signage; and WHEREAS, it is desirable to move the 30 mph zone further west to allow motorists coming into town to reduce their speed from 40 mph to 30 mph before getting to the roundabout; and WHEREAS, a change in the location of the speed limit transition from the current east boundary of Howard Street to a new location approximately 500' to the west at milepost 10.12. would allow for the posting of the 30 mph sign before the roundabout advisory sign and its 20 mph speed advisory; and WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is responsible for traffic signage and signals on the state highway and concurs with the proposed revisions. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains as follows: SECTION 1. Amendments to Chapter 10.28.010 Speed Limits Established. Chapter 10.28.010 is hereby amended to read as follows (strike is deleted and underline is added): 10.28.010 State Route 20—Between the western city limits and the eastern terminus of Water Street. No vehicle of any kind shall travel on that portion of State Route 20, also known as Water Street and Sims Way, in the city, between the eastern terminus of Water Street and the western city limits in excess of the speeds hereinafter set forth: A. From the east boundary of Harrison Street to the easternmost tenninus of Water Street, 20 miles per hour; Ordinance 3073 Amending PTMC 10.28 Page 2 of 2 B. From the east boundary of Harrison Street to the east bound, y of Ho A Street Milepost 1 n �Q� Milepost 10.12 (approximately 500 west of Howard Street), 30 miles per hour; C. From the t boundary f Howafd Street (Milepost i n i_Q)Milepost 10.12 (approximately 500' west of Howard Street) to the western corporate boundary(Milepost 9.78), 40 miles per hour. (Ord. 2751 § 1, 2000; Ord. 2141 § 1, 1989). SECTION 2. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance or its application to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the application of the provision to other persons or circumstances, is not affected. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days after the date of its publication in the manner provided by law.
