HomeMy WebLinkAbout01221991 ~~... · · · e It MINUTES Historic Preservation Commission January 22, 1991 The regular meeting of the H!storic Preservation Commission was called to order by Pete Raab, chairman, at 7:30 p.m. Present: Pete Raab, Liz Smith, Mike Yawman, Ann Landis. Absent: Tom Johnson. Teresa Goldsmith arrived 7:35 p.m. Rick Sepler, planning department, present. Guests: Sheri Robison, Kathie Pike, Sne08abot. Minutes were approved as written. Smith moved, Raab seconded acceptance. Raab read a letter to Jean Anderson. Commissioners approved the letter. Old Business Kathie Pike requested approval of signage for "Orphaned Overalls". She is having an existing sign repainted with letters and graphics. Sepler recommended that a certificate be granted. Discussion ensued concerning the font style - whether it is appropriate to the period of the building. HPC recommended the printing style be changed to an older-looking type face. It was pointed out that the application was confusing as to size (j)f the sign and will be clarified. It was opted to grant a certificate of review as conditioned: "That the applicant review apppropriate type faces for this sign." Smith moved that, "In consider- ation of the aforementioned findings lined conclusions, the HPC finds that the design Review applicaiton no. 9001-3 contributes to the Port Townsend Historic District and that a certificate of review be granted." Yawman seconded. Vote was unanimousljninafavQr. Ron Ramage and Sue Cabot requested ap~roval of signage for their B & B at 1306 Franklin. Staff recommended a certificate be granted. After discussion, Smith moved that, "In consideration of the aforementioned findings and conclusions, the HPC finds that the design review application, no. 9101-4, contributes to the Port Townsend Historic District and that a certificate of review be granted". Yawman seconded. Vote was unanimously in favor. There was discussion concerning whether design review applicants should be given more guidance on which type fonts are appropriate to the buildings in the Historic Districts, since they are, for the most part, older structures. It was decided to emphasize the stated guidlines concerning same when applicants first come in to begin the process to heighten their awareness of the requirement. Sepler was asked if he has an answer yet to the question raised at the last meeting concerning refunds for successful appeals. He is still checking. ~.- .., ., '" . . . . e e . There was discussion concerning the question of possibly limiting the successive terms of a Historic Preservation Commissioner. It was decided that it's not an issue right now but might need to be considered at a later date. New Business A blueprint reading workshop was suggested. It will be scheduled. Raab and Landis will present it. Two reviews will be coming up soon: Bartlett Building and Thomas Oil site. A discussion of the restoration of the gazebo at Chetzemoka Park ensued, and it was determined that design review will be required. It was decided that the mayor needs to Ulake aTúlìñg cencerni.ßg its appearance. Landis will contact him since her firm has volunteered to do working drawings for the reconstruction.
