HomeMy WebLinkAbout2456 Non-Negotiable Check FeeOrdinance No. ~,7'9tf6 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND CODE UPDATING THE CHARGE FOR NONNEGOTIABLE CHECKS AND AMENDING CHAPTER 3.32 OF THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE The City Council of the City of Port Townsend does ordain as follows: Section 1. Chapter 3.32, Section 010 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code, is hereby amended as follows: Chapter 3.32 RETURNED CHECKS CHARGE Sections: 3.32.010 3.32.020 Statement of purpose. Amount. 3.32.010 Statement of purpose. It is a convenience to the public to be allowed to make payments to the city in the form of a check. When the city clerk treasurer receives a nonnegotiable check, it is necessary for city staff to expend time and effort.correcting records, contacting the maker of such checks, and reprocessing the collection. The costs should not be borne by the taxpayers of Port Townsend, but rather should be borne by the maker of such nonnegotiable check. (Ord. __ §,~, 1995; Ord. 1994 § 1, 1984). Section 2. Chapter 3.32, Section 020 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code, is hereby amended as follows: 3.32.020 Amount. The city,..,....~'- treasurer is authorized and directed to charge ,e~-.-,.n ,xa,,,., $15.00 whenever it is necessary to reprocess a nonnegotiable check. (Ord. ~ §~;~ 1995; Ord. 1994 § 2, 1984). Section 3. Severability, If any provision of this ordinance or its application to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the application of the provision to Other persons or circumstances is not affected. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five days after the date of its passage, apProval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
