RESOLUTION NO. 11-033
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION BID
DOCUMENTS AND TO ADVERTISE THE BID FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND CARNEGIE LIBRARY SEISMIC RETROFIT PROJECT
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the importance of safety and the rehabilitation
of the Port Townsend Library also known as the Carnegie Library Building; and
WHEREAS, on May 17, 2010 the City Council authorized the contract with James Cary
Architect P.C. for schematic design and design development of the City of Port Townsend
Carnegie Library Seismic Retrofit Project and the Library Expansion Project; and
WHEREAS, the current funding picture has made it necessary to separate the Seismic
Retrofit Project and the Library Expansion Project and to proceed with only the Seismic Retrofit
Project at this time; and
WHEREAS, the City staff and project consultants are prepared to undertake the
completion of the construction documents necessary to solicit bids on the Seismic Retrofit
Project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend applied for and received a FEMA Pre-Disaster
Mitigation Program Grant for the seismic retrofit of the City of Port Townsend Carnegie Library
Seismic Retrofit Project; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to move forward with this project
construction in the most expedient manner in order to meet the current approved FEMA
completion date of September 2012; and
WHEREAS, the City will solicit bids for construction services in conformance with City
and State public works bid laws in a fair and timely fashion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
The City Council of Port Townsend authorizes the City Manager to proceed to complete the
necessary construction documents and to advertise the bid for the construction of the City of Port
Townsend Carnegie Library Seismic Retrofit Project.

ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting thereof, held
this 7th day of November 2011.
